WTB: RetroZone Super Maro Bros. 2j Repro Cart (Green Version)

I was wanting to pick one of these up before they got discontinued, so if anybody has one that they would like to sell, just send me a PM. Thanks!

  • Can I tease you with a pic of mine?
  • I'd trade mine (the first run with the glitch screens) for a loose copy of Little Samson

If I'm not mistaken I think RetroZone has already discontinued it.I got my copy from the Nesdump.I think the only difference between the various versions out there is RetroZones version has a Stage select option. But I could be wrong.Anyway good luck!

Yep, they got discontinued. It seems like it was actually on the same day that I went to order one. I'm pretty sure the RetroZone version does have a stage select, plus I like the green cartridge and the black box style label.

Wait long enough and you just might be able to pull that one off!

  • ^I guess 3gen and I were both wrong on our price estimates a while back.

Although I was smart enough to realize there was going to be a demand.

    That is just plain nuts.

I think the retrozone version has working wind also that makes it unique, correct?
  • I have one in my FS thread. It's the gray cart though, so not sure if you're interested.

The one Nesdump makes also has the working wind affects. The rom they use is "rom pefect"as far as being totally true to the actual game that was released in Japan. It's just lacking the stage select option, but that doesn't bother me to much.At least I can play the game.
  • So basically new parts and stage select, are the main difference.

Seems to be more demand in general for retrozone carts.

  • I guess I was under the impression that the wind took special board, but that must not be the case
  • The stage select feature is what makes this copy so great. I would not play this game as often as I do if I could not play any level at any time I want. No need to repeat level 1-1 just because I want a little different Mario fix.
  • Part of me thinks there is more to the story.

Coinheaven probably would have bought the retrozone version and dumped it if it were that easy. Just like he's done with Happy Camper for example.
  • I just emailed CoinHeaven directly at his Nesdump website to make sure that's the only difference between his version and Bunnyboy's version.I'm pretty sure excluding the stage select option the game itself is the same.I'll post my finding when he gets back to me.
  • The pirate famicom cart I had back in the 80's had the stage select and the logic on that PCB was all TTL.

I just got a response from Coinheaven owner of the NesDump, and he said he indeed does not make the version with the wind effects intacted. So basically the version he makes is sort of incomplete in my opinion.Because the original version in Japan had the wind effects in the game,so any version that does not have that intacted is therefore incomplete.

Is there a way to tell the first run copies from the later ones?

  • Thanks DreamStar for confirming that.

Back to my original statements, the wind takes a unique board, that only retrozone produced.

I guess it makes a little more sense why these are bringing so much on Ebay, I guess

I'd also be curious how to tell if I have an original run or not.

Yeah, right now there's one on ebay for $300 US,,now that I know what know about the complete game being exclusive to RetroZone I want a copy .But at 300 bucks that's unlikely to happen anytime soon, the version that everyone else uses is basically the same SMB2J minus the wind effects. The wind effects are cool ,but not cool enough (for me anyway)to justify paying $300.I'll wait for a while someone out there will either sell there's or another repro maker will produce this game in it's original complete uncut form.I hate having a hack rom version ,but I'll have to settle for that right now.

Hopefully Joe at theNesdump will buy the rom with the wind and stage select intact ,and produce the "real deal" so to speak.Or Bunnyboy will re-release the one he put out ,and me along with others wanting the real experence of this game can have a second chance at it.
  • I don't think It's possible, without a manufactured board, like the retrozone was using.

Coinheaven would have already done it if it were possible.

Timewalk might be able to, since they started using new boards
  • Well ,like I said the wind effects and the stage select option are pretty cool features ,especially the wind feature because the actual original rom of this game had that feature. But I'm not willing to drop $300 for a repro cart just because it has these features ,especailly because I can get a Famicom pirated cart with the wind effects intact for much less than a $300 repro cart. And it's also true to the original Famicom disk version.
  • ^I would have to agree with you, I was expecting the price to get as high as 85 but certainly didnt see 250 at all
  • And I'm pretty sure it's going to take a major Mario/repro collecter to be willing to drop that kind loot on that particular cart. And someone might ,just not me!

There might be a minty copy of Little Samson available for a copy of 8-bit Xmas 2008...

I know a guy - he'd be happy to make that trade.

As much as I would love to, Yoshigirl would KILL me (literally) if I traded off ANY of the christmas carts. She is kind of "attached" to one or two of them.

    On the other hand.
