1/2 lb. difference between 2 Identical SNES consoles

Needless to say, I've handled many a SNES system, and know they weigh around 2 pounds, according to my postal scale. Buyer wanted a shippng quote on a system with 15 games, went to grab one of my non yellowish systems to weigh with everything, but It felt like a brick. Weighed 2.5 pounds?

Any info on this? I'm curious. It's a regular NTSC SNS-001. As I mentioned I'm now really curious, never had a system that heavy, and there's nothing visible to account for the added weight obviously.

  • did you take it apart?
  • Do the systems take the same annoying custom bits as the games?

I cant remember but seem to recall not being able to open a SNES when I wanted to
  • Break it open...it may have a few 100 dollar bills in there!!
  • Yep herb they do

Yep, the only logical answer at this point. I've seen $5000 in a Golf cart and Sculpters Cut in a Madden 64 cart on this site, why not a few hundred in a SNES case...
  • Open it up and find out what is in there.

My guess is a 1/2 pound of dead bugs.

This seems to be the most likely and reoccuring incident.

This shit had me rolling. People do some crazy shit.
  • I believe some SNES's Early models had more significantly heafty hardware or so I seem to remember.

Yep, different board revisions within the same "model" SNES.

One was wider than the other.

450 notes makes 1 pound. So a half a pound It'd be a whole lot more than a few hundred bucks (Unless they were ones or twos)

    $1 Bills - $225

    $2 Bills - $450

    $5 Bills - $1,125

    $10 Bills - $2,250

    $20 Bills - $4,500

    $50 Bills - $11,250

    $100 Bills - $22,500

Don't ask me why I know what a pound of U.S. bills are worth.

  • I vote for bugs

I'm betting one pound of U.S. bills weighs one pound

  • This is why you don't check a forum first thing in the morning.
  • Snes systems have different guts....one weighs more would be my guess.
  • I found a few bucks in change in one of mine. Guess one of the kids used it as a piggy bank. Half a pound of bugs seems unlikely. That'd be a stupid amount of bugs.
  • Well yes there are different "guts" but I've never felt such a weigh in the over 100 consoles I've had. "Had" being ones I sell. But a different casing, or insides is the mundane and logical solution. Would be nice to find something special but I greatly doubt it.

Either way, I need a new screwdriver for removing the casing and cleaning and will pick one up this weekend. I'm opening it up anyways, just so I know why. I'm odd that way, perhaps obsessive to a degree. Hey, collectors usually are
  • is it too late to put in my prediction of 1/2lb of cocaine?
  • My guess is half a pack of smokes, some soiled underwear and a treasure map scrawled on the inside of a Frosted Mini-Wheats box are all tucked in there.
  • It's just heavier hardware. I've got one of these heavy SNES consoles right now, the metal shield on top of the motherboard is heavier and so is the board.
  • Milligangames is probably right but my guess is that it has to be 2 human thumbs I see no way around it.

You should see some of the systems I've opened up. A half pound of bugs wouldn't seem so crazy

  • The original systems with the discrete sound modules are significantly more heavy. I have one.

I blew a pound of ones at a strip club on my 18th birthday

  • I have one of these and opened it. Just seems like heavier, bulkier parts in it. I wonder if the quality of the sound and image are better because of the different parts?
  • I vote candy. That SNES is filled with candy!
  • its the sound card. the older model of the snes had a detachable metal box in side. the newer ones were built in and alot smaller

Tell that to the last SNES Game Genie I bought. To this day, it was the only cart I'd ever bought that couldn't be restored. Seriously one of the nastiest things I've ever seen.

And the smell...I'll never forget the smell...
  • I was hoping for weed, but then again after being stored in a snes shell for untold years probably would be a bit dry.

  • So I guess we'll never know what was in the SNES. I say it was a CIA widget and the guy is now in an underground facility in the Nevada desert.
