That's why I listed Mortal Kombat and Strider. Both were released on Nintendo but were far better on the Genesis. You could say the same about Castlevania - it originally debuted on the NES, but Bloodlines was defining for the Genesis due to its content. That said, Symphony of Night for the Saturn might be a better choice?
While I have to admit Symphony of the Night on the Japanese Sega Saturn was the superior version of the game compared to the Ps1 version.Bloodlines was a decent Castlevania game, but I can't being myself to say it was better than SCV4 which in my opinion was superior of the 2 games. It had better graphics especially with the use of the mode 7 abilitys ,and the sound was far better than Bloodlines.I think the only thing about Bloodlines I liked better was the option to pick between 2 characters. And while Mortal Kombat on the Genesis retained most the blood and gore from the original arcade and the game's controls were better, the Snes version looked and sounded better.Strider was hands down better on the Genesis .
Among those 3 I'm most familiar with Comix Zone, but since there is already good Genesis representation I feel like one of the other two should take the place on the list, and while Hang-On is a long standing Sega stable, I imagine that Lunar has held up much better as far as game play etc., ie people would make an effort to play it
My vote is for Lunar.
EDIT: If we're voting for 2 of the three, than I would vote Lunar and Hang-On
Molto makes a fair point about representation. I could def change my vote to see it be a better award, Lunar + Hang-On. I still don't see any exclusive Pico titles though.
I think it would actually be pretty easy to line up some specific awards. Granted, there aren't the long franchises like you find on the NES, but off the top of my head:
All Sega console Sonic releases
All Sega console Shining Force games
All SMS/Genesis/Sega CD/Saturn/etc. [insert genre here]

All cardboard Genesis / Sega CD
All NFRs
All Lunars incl. Variants
Sega Classics / MHS
We already kind iof have Sonic and SF series awards, so I dont think those would happen.
I like the Lunar award, MH/ Classic award ,and the Cardboard award ideas.
We would first have to know all the NFRs to make the award
there's not more sega themed awards because nobody is getting the ones that are already available. 1 person has sonic, 1 person has phantasy star and a whopping 2 people having the Shining series award. Now compare that to the 67 people that have the Zelda award. Surprisingly, Mario doesn't have a lot of takers either. Only 9. There's a fuck ton of games in that set, but still.
eh, a lot of these don't seem to be incredibly popular. Outside of Zelda, EB (which I think is a bs award anyway), and Metroid the next highest is 13 for Final Fantasy then a few 11s and the rest are all under 10.
Here is the Final list everyone. I think it's a nice looking list chosen by the community. I want to thank everyone for helping out with it.
1. Afterburner
2. Alex Kid
3. Altered Beast
4. Columns
5. Crazy Taxi
6. Ecco
7. Golden Axe
8. Gunstar Heroes
9. Hang On
10. House of the Dead
11. Lunar
12. Nights
13. OutRun
14. Panzer Dragoon
15. Phantasy Star
16. Shenmue
17. Shining Series
18. Shinobi
19. Sonic
20. Splatterhouse
21. Streets of Rage
22. Shining Series
23. Toe Jam & Earl
24. Vectorman
25. Wonder Boy
Regarding more awards. I think dballin said it best. We have a few already and there aren't many people going for them. It all comes down to a series not being large enough. I have already suggested a Black Box Grid set and the cardboard set. Maybe those will be implemented in the future.
This is another part of the problem. The awards aren't advertised at all on the Sega side. It makes sense that the Nintendo centric people they are advertised to aren't going to go for them.
We have a design but we are always open to new designs. The icon has to be 16x16 in case anyone is wondering. I tried to make one awhile back but I suck at pixel art.

I agree with all of this. I have the DQ award but thats my main series. I am close on the metroid and FF award. I may actually persue the Phantasy star award cause that series is awesome. And the Tetris award cause the wife loves Tetris. Mario does have a fuckton of games. And the EB award really is silly.
As far as the icon goes, Id really like to try to design one. Could be my contribution.
And we need to seriously change the TV award to include the GX TV! Its probably about as rare but covers more than just nintendo stuff. Plus there is a TV made that includes an attached PS2 which should be included. Make it a game specific TV award.
This may have been discussed already (I'm skipping through the thread), but I don't agree with Lunar or Splatterhouse. Yeah, they seemed like big deal Sega-exclusives at the time, but in hindsight, neither was created by Sega, nor was either series entirely exclusive to Sega's platforms. Splatterhouse for instance started as an arcade game, then the first one was ported to the Turbo Grafx. Then there's the Famicom spin-off title, and then the later series reboot on modern consoles (which also includes the first three games). As far as Lunar, yeah, I believe it began on the Sega CD, but the series continued on elsewhere. Surely the same can be said about some of the other games on the list, but at least they were still developed or at least published by Sega (i.e., Crazy Taxi, Panzer Dragoon, Altered Beast, etc).

Comix Zone - IIII - 4
Hang-on - III - 3
Lunar - IIII - 4
I'll give it to the end of the day and I'll see if anyone else has added their opinion.
My vote is for Lunar.

Award
speaking of an award, segaage needs more specifics, like over at NA.
how about a complete genesis cardboard award? or a redbox wonder dog?
and i can't think of anymore. so maybe it's not a good idea.

All Sega console Shining Force games
All SMS/Genesis/Sega CD/Saturn/etc. [insert genre here]
All cardboard Genesis / Sega CD

Can send *.bmp of the file or someone can easily remake it with the sprites; I like the look.
