How should I ship this-----advice needed

I just won this

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180270564860&_trksid=p2759.l1259

I searched this forum and found a thread where people are saying these signs always break during shipping. And someone else mentioned he gave specific instructions to the seller when shipping it and it reached him undamaged.

Someone suggested using express mail because people handle those packages better but problem is I am in Hong Kong and they will be shipping it here and international express mail is way too expensive.

I need to know what I should tell the seller when shipping it.

Thanks so much. I need your advice!

  • That sign has an original box that is missing
  • I would say probably have it wrapped in about 4 inches of thick buble wrap, and have that suspended in the center of a box filled with lots of packing peanuts. I think it might he a better idea to have it put in a crate and drop shipped to you, going to be expensive thou. image

    Don't all signs?
  • Never saw an original box for that sign before..sadly.
  • I feel like I overpaid for the sign but I guess I'll just have to live with it.

Thanks for all the advice, hopefully it'll arrive undamaged.
  • Going overseas I would send it Registered Mail insured for the amount you paid. That wouldn't be as expensive as Express but is handeld by people and not machines. Registered Mail is the securest type of mail the USPS offers as well. That would be your best bet I think, but any sign that large is not going to be cheap to ship overseas for sure!

  • have the person go to ups if there's one around, let them pack it, and it will get there.....
  • UPS is outragous when shipping international, I mean crazy high. I went to ship a test station to shrimp who lives in Sweden. UPS was like 225, FedEx was 250 and USPS was 90.

  • Yep. UPS is insanely high! I dont now why. USPS is the only way to go for international shipping.

That's how mine was shipped to me, and it arrived in perfect condition.  It made shipping expensive as hell but it was worth it.
  • Thanks for all the advice guys. I already told the guy what you guys said about packing and hopefully he'll do as told.
  • Not to put a negative spin on his purchase, but isn't there a company on ebay doing repro's of this sign? How do you tell the originals from the repros in an auction like this one?
  • I remember Dain saying that the best way to ship a sign is in a oversized box FILLED with packaging peanuts. Apparently, as he said, it allowed the sign to move around but not get damaged.
  • I think there is an official seal sticker on back that came from the manufacturer which states the date it was made and such. I know that could be a reproduced as well, but I highly doubt it would look legit. I am positive that the sign pictured in this auction is authentic.
  • For over $400 it better be!!
