Deemar's Finds
Every Sunday I go to a flea market here and usually walk away with a game or two. A couple of weeks ago I found a boxed Dragon Warrior IV on a guy's table and he wanted $120 for it so I put it back. Last night was my birthday party so I was up playing cards until 4:00 this morning and never got to the flea market until after 1pm, I figured everything good would be gone. I noticed the Dragon Warrior IV game was gone from that guy's table but noticed he had traded it to the guy next to him so it was now on another table. Being almost 2pm and a pretty popular boxed game, I humoured myself by asking how much he wanted for it. To my surprise he replied, "Fifty bucks." SOLD!
It has the maps, weapon reference sheet, game, box, styrofoam and a Nintendo sleeve not shown.

Then I offered him $15 for this Aladdin game, no idea what it's worth. It's in the box so I wanted it.

Worth about 40 bux!
Nice finds!
Thanks guys. I got a new one for you today.
Sometimes I look on Kijiji for games but not very often, I mostly look for local auctions on Ebay. However a week ago a local guy from Nintendo Age told me he had scooped a couple of sweet deals from Kijiji by seeing them as soon as they went up. So since that day I've been checking every hour or two to see what comes up and to my surprise, there is a huge load of vintage game postings that I've been missing out on because they go up, get sold and are taken down long before I ever notice them. Today it paid off, I saw this listing after it had been up for 16 minutes and texted the guy right away to see if I could come by. 20 excruciating minutes rolled by and finally my phone rang, he asked if I was coming over right away and I bolted out the door. I picked this up for $!50.
Includes:
- Nintendo system with all hookups
- Zapper
- Game Genie with guide
- Demon Sword
- Mega Man 3
- Ikari Warriors II
- Nobunaga's Ambition (sun damaged)
- Xevious
- 1943
- Super Mario 3
- Castlevania
- The Battle Of Olympus (with manual)
- Super Mario Bros. / Duck Hunt (with manual)
- Mike Tyson's Punch Out
These were also included. All games are complete with all inserts, manuals, game and styrofoam:
Then I noticed there was another listing for SNES and it was from the same guy. So I texted him again (before he replied back to me) and said I would take the SNES as well. I got all this for an additional $150.
Bundle includes:
- a blazingly white SNES with all hookups
- some weird controller
- Uncharted Waters New Horizons
- Ultimate Fighter
- Act Raiser
- NHL 96
- The 7th Saga
- Chrono Trigger
Plus these. Once again, all games are complete with all inserts and half of them have the games still in the plastic bags they came in. It looks like they've never been played, the flaps on the boxes are still stiff.
Then he said, "Here, do you want these too?" And handed me a pile of Nintendo Power and strategy guides.
When I got there he said there was someone that texted him a minute after I did and offered $400 for the lot. He honoured our deal and gave it all to me for $300. I'm stoked to finally have Chrono Trigger.

Nice score.... let me know if you are selling that Castlevania IV. One of the few games I'm having trouble finding in good shape and that looks fantastic!
It's absolutely mint, all the inserts are inside including the mailaway cards and promotional inserts, the manual doesn't have a scuff on it and the game is still in the plastic bag.
I'm unfortunately not selling the boxed game but I do have 3 copies of it now so I'm selling 1 loose copy. Putting my sale thread up soon. Lots of cartridges for sale.
Went to the flea market today and picked up Casino Kid II and Where's Waldo for $15. Then I went to a trade-in store and picked up a 3 screw Gyromite for $10. It's the Canadian version though, is it still R10? Did I score?
I've been hearing all about people going to garage sales and finding games, it sounded like it was some sort of freak occurrance but I keep hearing about it. And I hear about people that will go to a garage sale with nothing game related and just ask the people if they have any old games. I keep hearing about how successful this tactic is but again couldn't believe it was that easy. Today I decided to try it.
I went into the wealthier parts of the city and it seemed like there was a garage sale on every block, they were everywhere. We didn't hit the first one until about 1pm so I figured everything good would be gone.
GARAGE SALE 1
We got there and it was a complete washout, there were nothing but old dishes and picture frames from 40 years ago. I decided to try this tactic I heard so much about and asked the old ladies there if they had any older Nintendo games.
me - Do you have any older video games by chance? Nintendo? Super Nintendo?
woman 1 - Oh no, no, no.....nothing like that.
woman 2 - Oh, I do but they're at home though, at my house.
me - Oh, what do you have?
woman - I think it's that uh..........hmmm.......older uh.......super....DS?
me - Oh, DS? The handheld?
woman - No, not the handheld, the ummmm........super.....S?
me - Oh, Super Nintendo?
woman - Yes, that's it! And a whole whack of games for it too.
me - Awesome, are you selling it? I'm a collector of that stuff.
woman - Yes, sure, here's my number, come by tomorrow and you can take it.
SCORE! I need to go by there tomorrow and see what she has. I made sure I got her number just in case she lost mine or decided just not to call me.
GARAGE SALE 2
We drove 2 blocks and found another one, it was another older couple with a garage nearly empty because it was so late in the day.
me - Hi, do you have any older video games? Nintendo? Super Nintendo?
woman - Oh, were you the guy that emailed us yesterday asking?
me - No.
woman - Let me get my husband, he knows about that stuff.
man - Hi, yes, my son has that stuff but he says it's broken, he needs a piece for it or something. Something with a wire, I don't know. He said the replacement part is $8, I'll get it for you.
<man comes back with a top loader, cables and Super Mario 3>
man - Okay so they sell for about $100 and this one needs an $8 part. It only works on analogue TV or something.
<I take the system and look it over, doesn't look broken>
me - Okay well I already have one and I paid about $110 for it. Since this one is broken the most I can do is like, $65.
man - Let me go ask my son, it's his and I don't know. Oh here he is, he just came through the door. You two can talk it out.
<son explains to me how the pin connector inside has 1 bent pin and needs a replacement pin connector, it can be had for $8. As of right now it doesn't show anything but a gray screen when turned on. Everything else works.>
me - Oh, it doesn't work at all? Okay then. Well if it doesn't work I guess the best I can do is $50, maybe I can get it working.
son - Okay, that's fair.
me - Uh oh, I must have spoke too soon. I don't want to be that guy but I only have $40 in my pocket (honestly, I wasn't trying to lower the price).
son - Ya, $40 is fine, I don't care.
me - Do you have any other games or anything?
son - Ya, I have a bunch, let me get them, you can have them too.
<he comes back with a pile of games and gives them to me for free. I'm in disbelief that that actually worked>
me - Okay, thanks. Do you have any friends that have games?
son - Ya, I have a friend that has a very well established SNES connection that I don't think he gives a crap about. Give me your number and I'll call you to look at it.
GARAGE SALE 3
We went another couple of blocks and found another one. It looked like they were having a party in the middle of the afternoon, guys full of tattoos were smoking it up and pounding back beer in the driveway, totally ignoring everyone lurking around their garage at the things they were selling. We walked in and immediately I see multiple shelves, bins and boxes of old games but my heart sank when I looked inside to see nothing but old Playstation controllers and picked through leftovers. I found a box and map for Breath Of Fire II, the only remnants of the treasures that were only hours earlier. I walked over to the group in the driveway to ask if there were more games so I popped into a gap in their circle and stood there waiting for the main guy to finish talking to his friend about going over to some dude's house and scoring some dope. No kidding, I stood there for 3-4 minutes just waiting and he never looked at me once. FInally I interrupted him and asked if he had any other games:
me - Hey man, did you have any other older games? Nint-
him - Oh man, you missed out. I had bins full of that stuff, it was gone by 10am. I seriously had some dude knocking on my door before I was even out of bed looking for them. I had games, boxes, I sold a complete Zelda games, it had the box, manual, maps and everything was still in the plastic.
me - How much did you sell it for?
him - Oh I don't know dude, five bucks? And there were piles more.
me - I'm going to go cry now. Okay well I found this box and stuff, how much for this?
him - Oh you can have that, don't worry about it.
GARAGE SALE 3
Anoher couple of blocks and we found another. We followed another car that was going really slow and taking the same route, we both parked there at the same time and it was a young guy so I made sure I got in there first to talk to the woman:
me - Hi, do you have any older video games? Nintendo? Super Nintendo?
her - No, and that's the thing people ask about most. I got 3 emails about the garage sale and all of them were asking that.
me - Okay, thanks.
other guy that came in behind me - Hi, do you have any older video games?
GARAGE SALE 4
Farther down the street we came to another and there was quite a few things left still, they had donations and were selling everything for the Kidney Foundation. In the back I found a Xbox for $15 and a boxed Playstation for $15. Plus a game for $1.
Didn't really want it but it'll look good on top of my display shelf I guess. Some guy came behind me and asked if the Xbox would be good for his 5 year old son. I said I had no idea, I've never played it. Microsoft is the devil, no way.
So I got everything for $56.

Nevermind, I got the top loader working. I just had to switch the channel select on the back from 3 to 4. SCORE! I love it when you get something broken for half price and it's not really broken.
Oops. I mean I had to switch it from 4 to 3. I watched 4 YouTube videos on how to swap SRAM chips and replace capcitors before I found a website talking about the switch. Made me feel like an idiot. But then I remembered that I only paid $40 for it and didn't feel like an idiot anymore!

I called that woman yesterday on her home number and they said she wasn't home. I called her cell phone and left a message, no reply. I called her again later in the day, again no answer. I'll call again today and leave another message, after that it's over. I can't call her 5 times.
She just called back, her phone was dead. Going over there in 1.5 hours to look at it.
Just got back from there, here it is. I got the entire lot for $75. The son was selling a beat up Game Boy I didn't really want but she looked like she was trying to support a couple of kids so I gave her $10 for it.

I tried the garage sales again today, it was a total waste of time. I don't know how this weekend was the total opposite of last weekend. I gave one woman my number whom said she has a couple of games but I'm not entirely hopeful she's going to actually call me.
However this is what I did pick up, is this worth anything? I paid $32 for all of it.
- couple of video cables
- RF Modulator
- Telepong
- Atari computer
Today was the garage sale and I needed to sleep so I got up at noon and they had emailed me writing, "Hey, I don't know if you were the guy that came by this morning but we found some more games in the basement and put them out if you want to come by."
Oh no, someone bought the games I wanted but it looks like there's more, awesome. I immediately went and checked it out, the garage sale was in a terrible location (good for me) so the newer games were still there. I asked and he said he had sold a Shadowgate and a couple of other NES games to the previous guy but still had this left. He also took me in the house and tried to sell me a NES with a couple of Mario games for $30, I wasn't interested. I bought this though.
Wood grain Atari 2600 6 switch with 4 games, an APF TV-Fun unit without battery cover, 3 joysticks, Odyssey games, NES manual, Atari plug and a NES plug. Got it all for $25.
So I asked him if he had any other games for sale and he says, "Oh ya, lots of Super Nintendo stuff, mostly boxed." He showed me a picture of them all from his phone and said he had the, "ultra rare Ninja Gaiden Trilogy." I asked how much and he said, "Well, I had it listed for $60 last night but someone emailed me today and told me it's a $300 game so I'm looking for $150." So thanks to some anonymous Kijiji emailer, I paid a lot more than the list price but still got an incredible deal. Check my trade thread if you're interested in it. See signature.
And the money shot. Anyone ever notice how Dragon Warrior 3 is the only one with the letters facing the other way? This cartridge is also for sale, check my signature if you're interested.
Then checked out another garage sale and asked some old lady if she had any old games and she said she had some in her basement. I offered her $25 for this and didn't realize until I got home that it stinks of cat. I had to put it back in the bag and leave it by the door after I took the picture.
I did notice something weird though, there is a NOA stamp inside the lid of the console and on the bottom there is a red and white Mattel sticker. I know Mattel was the Canadian distributor for the NES but are those variants worth any more than non Mattel?
