Boneless, a Gameboy music cart

While compiling my Homebrew/Repro guide, I found out about a Gameboy music cart made by The Mist Toggles called Boneless. It was originally sold on kitsch-bent, a chiptunes website that sells cool things. I sent them an email across the pond to ask some questions about the original run number and price it was sold for. They responded and told me that they made 50, but only ever sold 20 of them. The rest are in a closet.

Original price for it was $30, plus shipping.

Naturally, I asked if I could buy one. Here is their response:

I have very limited time to put in distribution, this is why I was doing it mostly via kitsch-bent, so, it either has to be in the form of order list, or again via kitsch-bent.

So, I thought I'd see if I could put a list of interested parties together. Anyone? Anyone?

Marked in red means paid. Marked in blue means shipped.

  • I guess I could get one myself as well.
  • I'd buy one!
  • Sign me up for one.
  • sign me up!
  • Well, so far so good!
  • Cool... if I collected Gameboy stuff I'd be alllll over this. Good luck though man.
  • Ok, put me down for one!
  • Game Boy stuff? Yeah, I'll take one.
  • I actually want one. Is there any pictures or anything? I will think about this one for sure. I hardly ever buy stuff online. But this is cool.
  • What kind of program is it? I might be in interested, like said above is there any pics of the cart and/or rom?

Not sure. I don't know a whole lot about what you chiptune guys do. But look at my OP, and there is a link to Boneless where you can DL the album. You'll be getting a Gameboy cart with the music on it to play on the bus, as you walk around campus, or wherever else you like to Gameboy!

  • Well, the maker agreed to sell me the carts bulk, which I will then distribute from that point. There is one rule though!

I cannot charge more than $30.

This is what the original price was, they said, and this is what they are charging me. I will ask for a couple bucks shipping. But this is on!
  • Oki..i'll pick one up...why not ..just send me the details when ready
  • I'll take one too
  • List updated!
  • So this is a cart-release chiptune album? I was trying to figure out what kind of music-making software it was, but didn't find any info.
  • is the music rendered to mp3 available anywhere? i might be down but id want to check some of it out first and dont really wanna mess around with the mml or the emulator, would rather listen to it on an mp3 player.
  • Sign me up please.
  • I would be interested in one as well. Thanks for putting this together
  • Well, looks like he's ready to ship to me. Any other takers? We're discussing how many copies I need right now. Any other takes before I finalize this?
  • Nice find!
  • It's not really an "album", it's a single drone track. It plays for hours. For it to be an album it would have to have rhythm. Drone tracks don't have rhythm, you can't dance to one. Think playing the same note for a couple of minutes, and switching to a different one. It's ambient noise, essentially. An interesting project but if you're expecting Vegavox style dance-offs you will be sorely disappointed.

  • I shall get it.
  • Carts are ready to be shipped from Europe. I'm paying for them later today.

Also, I bought all he had left, so there are some more spots that opened up. Whatever I don't sell on here, I'll probably take around with me to conventions and sell at them.

It looks like there is no label, so I'm going to work with Tusk to get some made. Probably number them, too. #'s 21-50.

  • if you got one for me i'll give you a kiss next time i see you
  • I'll buy it!
  • I don't think making labels is a good idea. It damages the authenticity. I'm saying this mainly because I bought one last year at full price and I'd be missing out on a part of it that way

If you must make labels, contact The Mist Toggles about it. It is their cart after all.
