SMS rarity list

  • Yeah seller's region doesn't mean anything. I've bought NTSC games from abroad and foreign games locally even. Just because the cart works on the console doesn't make it a domestic release. Especially when the Euro releases of the later SMS games are completely different. The cover art and manuals are different for SM GP and Castle of Illusion which have been discussed previously, but even the cart is different for Paperboy. You might think UPCs are stupid, but if that's the only thing that denotes the 'US' release then that's what we have to go off of.

Same deal with Stadium Events on NES. The PAL version is easier to come by and goes for a fraction of what the US version goes by, but the availability of the Euro version doesn't make the US version less rare.

I don't really care about rarity and I pretty much threw your values in without checking any of them except for SM GP which I knew to be much higher than a 2 because I own it and actively sought it out for a while before getting lucky in a lot that ended for $20. If you're counting worldwide releases then they all most likely need to be readjusted. =\
  • I still see lots of ? In my list
  • If you mean in your own collection tool then that's normal. Those don't update with the db. You're gonna have to do that manually. =\
  • that is silly...
  • Well I had to do it, so you can too.
  • how do you change them? if I manage my list can't seem to change change them.
  • My Collections >> whatever collection you feel like editing >> Click on the name of the game in your collection and you should be able to edit a ton of info about it. Can even add your own pictures if you wish.
  • Was curious of everyone's opinion on the After burner poster being part of the required complete list like the Almanac or the map for Miracle warriors.
  • I honestly would leave the posters out but that is my opinion. unless it is related to the game itself, like the map or almanac for sandiago, I wouldn't count it.
  • I was going to make this a new thread instead but since you replied ... Im cool with that. After burner seems to be the only one that actually has a poster that I have noticed so far. Its not like the Miracle warriors map however and leaving it off a required list seems cool with me.
  • Is Dragon Crystal not on the list? For some reason that's the one SMS game that I've never seen mentioned anywhere except maybe a couple game recommendation sites.
  • Dragon crystal was considered a Europe based game. It was on my personal list and I own the game myself. Was trying to get some games added to the list but it got fought with resistance so I just decided to leave it the 114 games that was there.
  • 114 was just the US list, doesn't this site have the game list for other regions?
  • It does ... but that was my main issue with the list. A lot of games that were possibly available here in one form or another are not on the list. I know personally I bought Ultima IV and Basketball nightmare from Toys R US in Oklahoma in 1989/90. Neither of those are on the list. I have heard of other games that were available in the states too.
  • Yeah for those we just have to find out if Sega approved the distribution in some form.
  • kings quest manual....should be like a 9 or 10......i've seen more copies of other, more rare, items move yet haven't seen a single copy of this with the manual.

Why is the manual for this so impossible to come by?

btw, less than 20 to go!

First off, congrats ! I have 11 games to go and they're all commons but haven't even tried to pick one up in like half a year. I don't want the journey to end.

There's usually always a few copies on King's Quest complete at my local retro store, I never see it incomplete but I know areas differ. Golden Axe Warrior is the one I can never find the manual for and I already overspent paying $30 for the box and cart...What did they do with them ?

  • Where do you live and can I get a copy somehow. around here, seeing a SMS game in a store is like finding a needle in a haystack. Hell, I tried to trade some duplicates at a local retro store and they didn't know what to do with them because no one would ever purchase them.
  • I live in Chicago and the store is called People Play Games. I think they want around $40 to $50 for it usually. Next time I go over there I can take a look for you...I traded some SNES stuff for one on this forum.
  • cool. I ugess I can call them and see sometime.
