Yeah that's basically it, like the other ones I mentioned. It's also originally from a video store (an ex rental) which is what I find most strange as they wouldn't be the type to usually do something like that. Also, even though it's a Genesis cart it works find on my PAL Mega Drive ... I guess it will be one of lifes unsolved mysteries!

  • I have a Gold collection Sonic Spinball and Platinum Collection Ecco II and Sonic & Knuckles. I actually got Ecco for $15 complete and it even came with a competition card asking questions about Sega games and the box itself looks pretty much new. I got my Sonic & knuckles for $8. Very good when the store I found it in wanted $70 for Earthworm Jim SNES cart only.
  • Thought I would update this thread with a photo to show my Australian exclusives collection and how much it's grown since my first post on here

You are still a long way off young grasshopper, but still a good way there. They all look very nice together indeed. I love the Australian exclusives, shame they're quite often in poor condition as Australian kids were obviously rough little buggers.

Haha I sure am but happy that it seems to be growing nice and quickly! And yes, there are a few there that are a bit worn, especially the silver cases which sux as it's hard to replace them with better ones with them being so far and few between!

That's why you go to Bunnings and buy a can of silver spraypaint.

Here is what I got from a quick search: http://www.perfectconversion.net/md-variants.htm

Though that list doesn't mention the red spine releases and the really big promo boxes of which there were 3 or 4. I also think it is missing some of the titles for some of the variants shown on that page. I know of a more accurate list somewhere but I will have to do some digging for it as it is on an older and not much used forum of which the name escapes me at the moment.

EDIT: here is something else, scroll down: http://www.retrogamingaus.com/wiki/index.php?title=Mega_Drive

That could be my new business, selling 'genuine' silver cases.

Yeah that retro gaming aus seems to have the complete list. It hasn't taken me long to almost complete the Gold and Platinum sets but the silver cases are the ones that will take me some time! I really wanna get as many as I can before heading overseas!

If you want to collect Australian variants keep three things in mind. Firstly, the shipping will be very costly and will overall make it a kick in the ol' wallet to get them from here to there. Secondly, it is even difficult to get them all even living in Australia as some don't come up often and when they do people ask way too much. Third, they are often in poor condition and it's obviously almost impossible to find replacement cases that are silver, or even the plain black Ozisoft ones. They are fun variants to try and get but doing it from abroad can have it's obstacles and challenges. You would have to find someone here that would receive them and ship in bulk not only to save on shipping but also because some people will not ship outside of Australia. I did this for molotovwars, he would be a good person to ask what it was like to try and get them from over there.
