Localizing a Import 3DS

Hi everyone, my wife wants a 3DS, but the color she wants never came to the states, I'm planning on getting the import system and just swapping the main board from a USA system so she can play local games. In theory this should work, but, is it possible to skip that step and just flash the firmware of the import system to being USA region?

If not possible, I'm assuming the board swap should work.



any advice?

    I haven't heard of any firmware flash as of yet. Might be less of a hassle to just swap the cases. Might be.
