Can't Identify Issue

I am at my wits ends, I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I purchased the following items. GQ-4X usb programmer as well as the adaptor needed for larger eproms and flash eproms. I also purchased several am29f032b chips, and some TSOP40 adaptor boards both board type I and II. Soldered the chips to the board, the board to some pins but when I put it in the programmer it doesnt id. it just says ID check failed.("FFF7") I've tried several times but still each one I make fails to id.

Not sure what I'm doing wrong, could it be...

my soldering technique?

type of iron or soldering tip?

type of solder?

did i solder the wrong extra connections?

wrong set up on the adaptor board, am I suppose to move anything around for it to work with the tsop 40 boards?

  • Someone earlier had the same issue: http://www.nintendoage.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=22&threadid=104858

The software supports the chip, just not your adapter.
  • I'm not sure if the issue is the same in the other forum post. I'm using this adaptor on my gq-4x http://www.mcumall.com/comersus/store/comersus_viewItem.asp?idProduct=4289 not the one the other was using that only holds the 29f032b chips that haven't been mounted yet. Mine I've already mounted the chips to adaptor boards. Is that a problem I thought I could mount them my chips to this board http://www.buyicnow.com/vp.php?pd=796 and this board http://www.buyicnow.com/vp.php?pd=1986, add the pins and program using the adaptor adp-054
  • The answer as to why its not working is there. Its not the right adapter.

    "Device supported on ZIF socket:

    27C1024,27C2048, 27C4096,27C210,27C2002,27C4002,27C400, 27C800, 27C160, 27C322."

    29f032 not listed there.

Not too savvy on snes flash chip repros, but if you look around, you should be able to find the right adapter for it.

I think that other fella's issue was actually closely related to your own lol.

Good news is you might be able to do genesis repros with that adapter you have =0)
  • hmm I had considered the possibility of having the wrong adaptor as originally I had bought most of the items on the assumption of programming regular eproms not flash ones. Does anyone know what adaptor I could use if the 29F032b eeproms are already on the TSOP 40 board? or is the only option to program them before hand on the ADP-077 adaptor
  • Could someone help identify this adaptor image it came from a post on how to solder the 29f032b chips easily from this link http://www.mmmonkey.co.uk/29f032-soldering-dip36-to-tsop40-adapter-board/. I'm not sure if you can program using it but it seems to identify the eeprom and tsop which I can't seem to do. In any case I'd like to have it in order to test the eeproms and boards to make sure they're working
  • If you ate mounting the chips first you must construct your own adapter.

Also the one from the pic is the gq-3x adapter modified to work on 4x. It will program and erase buy will not verify properly. I believe I have a spare I can sell/trade made using the high end aries zif socket.
