A totally unexpected $5 find

New Super Mario Bros U with a July 2013 price sticker for $59.99. Goodwill just under $5 after tax.

Not only do I never find anything at Goodwill, but I found this out in the boonies mixed in with the dvds.

Now I should buy a Wii U.

  • My guess is someone bought it with the intention of donating it to good will, hoping some less fortunate child would get it for cheap. That happens quite often with items that still have the original sticker on them.

Or it's a tax writeoff for places like Target.   There's a whole wall at my local Goodwill of stuff with Target clearance stickers on them.

  • weird maybe it got donated by accident

i dont think someone donated it thinking some less fortunate kid would get it at a lower price. because they wouldnt have a system to play it on
  • A less fortunate child wouldn't have a Wii U, some grandma probably bought it for her grandkid since she remembered he had a Wii.
  • gotta say it but pics or it didnt happen, but still sounds awesome

The pics are in my flickr album. It's now for sale. Just had to test it on a friend's Wii U before listing it for sale.
  • It's probably more luck it didn't end up on shopgoodwill or restickered matching the gamestop used price. I think you do need to get a WiiU and play it as it's really the only good if not great New SMB title so far and fairly well plays up strong ties to Super Mario World in design.

This was my first thought as well. The Goodwill closest to me has a few brand new items with Best Buy stickers on them.

Did you take off the original price sticker? I don't see it in the pic.

  • Mostly likely from a retailer that a GoodWill employee just wound up pricing wrong. It used to happen at a GoodWill I went to quite a bit....I found a few copies of Spore when it had first been released for the PC for $2.99. Good find!

It's on the back. Still there.

I have friends that do it. They go and buy things they know kids like and drop them off at good will. I'm conflicted about how to feel about this.

    Yes, it definitely was!

I am going to sell it if I get the $40 I want. If not, I will just hang on to it until I get a Wii U in a year or after a major price drop. I'm really in no rush, although I know I will own the system at some point. Maybe by then it will cost $200 or less and games like this will enter a "player's choice" or "Nintendo Selects" type deal and be $20 or $30 new, anyway. Then I can rebuy it at that point.

  • Lucky find!
  • I found a Super Mario Bros U at my local goodwill also.. wierd. Paid $15 for it though. I think it was a Target write off.

Like the OP, I don't own a Wii U. I couldn't pass it up at that price. The club code worked too!
