I enjoy GC but I rarely ever play it. I recently traded in a handful of GC games such as Lost Kingdoms 1 and 2, PN 03, and some doubles. The games still hold up really well but I personally prefer the multiplatform titles on PS2 or XBox. Exclusives and the GB player are the only thing I own for GC anymore.
Overall I think it's always been a lesser talked about console because of all the competition at the time. I think it's a time when Nintendo wasn't at their best but certainly not at their worst.
It's probably the only system I still own that I might eventually get rid of because 1- My regular Wii can play all my physical GC games, 2- I also have a modded Wii that can play GC games from an SD card, and 3- It's one of my smallest disc collections.
While I was playing around with the SSBM trophies I discovered something interesting with the Metroid trophy, besides the already well known reflection of the Super Metroid space colony. Usually you can zoom in and out and rotate trophies with the C-stick quickly but if zooming in or out from the Metroid's bottom it's really slow as if the Metroid is "stuck" on you and you're trying to pull away from it!
I absoultely loved how you could zoom in and out and rotate around the trophies which was like a tech demo for the GC, showing off what it can do...on a lanuch title no less!! That being said, I was extremely disappointed SSBB (Wii) doesn't let you do that. It would've been nice to similarly see how the trophies on the Wii version look by comparison.
Haven't gotten around to doing Tales of Symphonia...but I have done Tales of Phantasia (first one in the series)! How does Symphonia stack up to Phantasia?
General consensus is that Symphonia is the best in series, at least as far as I've read. I've only played a few of the Tales games and Symphonia is the only one I still own. Easily one of the best RPGs on GCN.
I was a Nintendo loyalist until after the Gamecube came out. I bought it near launch and quickly returned it. Then went for an Xbox and havent looked back since.
Cube started the downfall. My kids have the Wii&the wiiU systems which sure the mario titles can be fun, but ive never been more frustrated by a console. Why nintendo why? From controllers to motion detect to titles. So much fail.

Xbox? Ew. That was a total cracker system. I liked the exclusives on GC, but honestly didn't care much for that era (PS2, GC, XBOX, even GBA were not my cup of tea). Maybe Dreamcast, but looking back even that one wasn't all that great, either. There's very few games I'd go out of my way to buy these consoles for, and the ones I have I sold or am selling, mainly Dreamcast, Xbox and PS2 are in the process of being sold. It's hopeless to try and sell the Gamecube as much as it is a PS1, unless you want the GB Player. Such a shame.
Gamecube is possible my favorite video game system. I don't understand the hate that it gets, since it had so many classic Nintendo games on it.
It has plenty of good exclusives that were a 'quality over quantity' ordeal, but was unfortunately outsold by the Xbox. Xbox also proves what I have always believed about the way western mainstream gamers think and about the longevity of generic western games in general. Halo is also quickly fading away. The games are intense but undistinguished in charm or mechanics. Most realistic games are always shunned when something that's basically the same but more real comes along and gets some short favor because it has a bit more polish. I don't really feel this about games like Mario or Zelda because the differences are more than just lipstick. There was a significantly different feel in the mechanics of Super Mario Bros 1 vs SMB3, it wasn't just he exact same with more items. GTA didn't even feel that different between its iterations, starting with GTA3 and then GTA:SA. It was like playing the same game PC for years, just with expansion packs. Mind you, I don't hate all western games. I've been playing stuff by Eidos and Crystal Dynamics lately (those being Gex and Tomb Raider) that actually were enjoyable. But it does seem to me that most western games don't have any real soul or charm to distinguish them. They may sell immensely in the beginning, but they're not the ones who hold up and gradually rise in demand like NIGHTs into Dreams or Tomba would. Many of those who are first, will be last and many who are last will eventually be first, in some way or another. It doesn't come over night. Some of these popular games are virtually unsellable and I don't know many people who still play them or consider them respectable anymore. Every game store I've been too has such a massive overflow of original Xbox games, and dirt cheap because no one is going to pay an arm and a leg for them. I don't even think they'd be more valuable if the system were harder to mod for piracy. Most of the discs I bootlegged for Xbox I cut up and trashed because they were forgettable. The 360 didn't improve on this much at all. I hate to say it, but I want to be able to play more western video games that don't suck or are forgettable, but it doesn't seem like things are getting better. They're getting worse. Most of the characters aren't distinguished either.
I was in 6th grade when gamecube came out. That was around the age where the guys were starting to notice girls, getting into cars, 4wheelers, overall more adult things so everyone moved to more "adult" consoles. Mostly the PS2 in my area. Ive since developed more respect for the games on the gamecube but I still hate its controller, i don't understand why people praise it so much.
I'm so glad that I kept all the GC games I bought back in the day. Prices have definitely shot up. I still can't seem to get a reasonably priced Pikmin or F-zero GX though!
All the more reason I feel bad for those who sell off their previous gen games/systems towards a new one...how are you supposed to enjoy all those classics/other games on that system if you do that?
