MORE EBAY POLICY CHANGES
Faster, more secure checkout experience
Paper payments end this October
Beginning late October 2008, all items listed on eBay.com must be paid for using one of the following approved payment options:
- Direct credit or debit card payment via a merchant credit card account
- PayPal
- ProPay
- Payment on pick-up
By January 2009, all approved electronic payment methods will be
integrated into eBay checkout. For example, buyers will be able to
enter their credit card number directly into eBay checkout, and the
payment will be routed to the seller's Internet merchant account or to
their PayPal account.
Please note that the new payments policy will not apply to the
vehicles categories in Motors, capital equipment categories in Business
& Industrial, Mature Audiences and Real Estate.

Meeting expectations for online payments
Expectations for shopping and paying online have evolved since
eBay was founded. People want consistent, secure and fast transactions.
Offline payment methods are no longer suitable for online transactions.
This opinion is shared by law enforcement and the financial services
industry. The vast majority of ecommerce shoppers, including eBay
buyers, now use online payment methods. On eBay.com over 90% of
transactions are paid with online payment methods and the use of
offline paper methods has declined by 40% over the last 3 years.

Subcategory Description Maximum Shipping Cost
Accessories Accessories $6.00
Games Games $4.00
So no matter what the accessory is the max shiping is $6 I can think of some you can't ship for $6.
And if you want to just ship your games priority mail well foget it. Unless you want to eat the difference.
LMAO at the final value fee changes for video games...15% up to $50 + 5% up to $1000?! I'll never sell another thing on eBay. My buying will be *very* limited, only to rare stuff, homebrews, and game-related items that really don't pop up all that often, and that will be about it...
Same, ebay's policies are getting worse with every change, and sellers are getting screwed as it is. I probably wont be doing too much selling either, ebay is really only good for getting the very rare items you cant find anywhere else.
(SoCal Mike, if you read this before you get my PM or the e-mail from PayPal, I finally sent the payment for it
I'm thinking that might be the best way to go if you are a seller.
I'm sorry, but anyone that fell for that Fixed Price Listing crap these past few months...Wow...not sure what else to day.
I'm so sick of trying to search for items when all I see are stupid out of control prices on people trying to sell their stuff for 10x the amount, and now it's going to get worse.
eBay is/was supposed to be an "auction" site, not this horseshit it's turned into.
wow those are some really shitty max prices
Amazon charges $0.00 for listing and you can have it up forever, no fees til it sells, AND you get shipping reimbursement.
I've briefly tried amazon and decided 25% final value fees wasn't worth it. They have much higher fees than ebay. What is so good about it? What am I not seeing? There isn't one thing about Amazon I like better
More Ebay Shenanigans - cut and pasted from a Digital Press Thread:
As of 9/16, FVF for BIN for Books, Music, DVDs & Movies and Video Games will follow the following sceme:
$1.00-$50.00: 15.00% (was 8.75%).
$50.01 - $1000.00: 15.00% of the first $50, 5% for the rest (was 8.75%, 3.5%).
Over $1000.01: 15.00% for the first $50, 5% for 50-1000, and 2% for everything above that (was 8.75%, 3.5%, 1.5%).
They are lowering the insertion fee though to a flat $0.15...
Books, Music, DVDs & Movies and Video Games
$1.00 - $9.99 was $0.25
$10.00 - $24.99 was $0.35
$25.00 - $49.99 was $1.00
$50.00 - $199.99 was $2.00
$200.00 - $499.99 was $3.00
$500.00 or more was $4.00
Plus, they are instituting a maximum shipping charge. You MUST offer one shipping option that is less than the following:
Accessories Accessories $6.00
Games Games $4.00
Internet Games Games > Guild Wars $6.00
Games > World of Warcraft $3.00
Software & PC Versions $6.00
Other Other $4.00
Systems Systems $15.00
Vintage Games Vintage Games $6.00
Wholesale Lots Accessories $10.00
Console Systems $50.00
Games $9.00
Other $9.00
But wait, there's more:
"...checks and money orders will no longer be accepted on eBay..."
"So starting in late October, 2008, we are moving to 100% electronic payments - credit cards, ProPay, or PayPal."
So, selling a $50 game on eBay used to cost $6.375. Now it will cost $7.65. Don't forget, you have to accept PayPal, so you have to add on an additional fee of $1.75, bringing the new total to $9.40. Say goodbye to 18.8% of your money...
sosafan: You don't get charged until it sells. I think it's 15%, not 25%. They give you reimbursement for shipping, but I know they take away some of that as well the transaction and variable fee.
I think if you sell something at $50, they take 7.50 + 1.35 + 0.99 and refund $3.60 or so, which I know is around 17% or so, and remember, no listing fees.
That whole relist/list crap is a scam on ebay. Do you know how much money you spend in eBay fees at the end of the month, and that's not including PayPal fees?
Oh yes, we forget about Paypal that takes their cut of 3-4% plus transaction fees under a certain amount of money, so yeah, eBay is going to rock everyone bad with this.
Oh wait, I almost forgot...
Deadbeat buyers can get away with so much nowadays. They just won't pay, or they want to pay when they want to. File an unpaid item dispute? As long as they respond to it, they can still leave you negative feedback, and you are stuck relisting the item wasting time and money, plus you don't get refunded on your relisting fee. No negative feedback for buyers = badnews. You can't tell who the deadbeats are at all.
Amazon works so you have to pay in order to buy the item. Not "buy the item" and wait 7 days which is nice if you are a buyer, but no repercussions if they don't pick it up?

Ah, you're right, it' $1.35 + 15% in video games. The average item I sell is $10 so a $10 item on Amazon costs me $2.85 in fees, 28.5% in fees (which is why I was thinking around 25%). My paypal/ebay fees ranges from 15-17% of my sales which includes fees I pay for stuff that doesn't sell. I'm not familiar with the reimbursement for shipping you are talking about but I don't remember getting that for anything I sold
Shipping reimbursement is included in each breakdown of fees on Amazon somewhere. They definitely give you money back in the fee explanation for each.
I just started trying to sell seriously on ebay about a month or two ago and this is incredibly disappointing. It is entirely not worth using fixed auction listings.
I think I'm just going to sell NES systems as 7 day auction listings and make the move to another site.
I dunno about you all, but I'm paying the $50 for Chasethechuckwagon free listings..
sosafan: your fees are about to get worse, but you can list a lot more stuff and not pay as much, so that's the trade off on fixed price.
I don't normally run any fixed price auctions though. I only have in the past during discount
periods so my fees shouldn't change unless I decide to run some fixed price
listings. It provides me a new OPTION
to cheaply get myself more exposure to get buyers into my store. I don't disagree it may be worth more but if
you do 100 fixed price listings and 20 sell, it should come out to a fairly
comparable price to what it was and it'd be cheaper if only 5-10 sell. If it turns out not worth it, then I don't use
the method, simple as that.
Every time ebay changes fees, everyone pisses and moans
saying EVERY single change is a price increase. Price change doesn't necessarily mean price increase. It certainly can be if you don't play your cards well. Personally, I wish they would have left fixed price as it was and
added this as a completely new option and call it something completely
different. They basically removed fixed
price auctions and created a totally different style. If you prefer higher starting fees with less final fees, use
auction style with a BIN. It's
basically the same price as fixed price was and accomplishes the same thing.
I realize I come at this with a different perspective
than some and it seems like no one agrees with me but I am THRILLED about this
change and can't wait to see if it'll give me more exposure to result in more
sales.

Doesn't the BIN option vanish once some one bids. Or are you suggesting starting the auction at 9.99 with a BIN of $10.00

Yes, exactly what I mean
~~NGD
Then Ebay.co.uk is (still) a much better place to sell with the 9% and very low listing fees.
I think I will put like 50 more auctions on Chasethechuckwagon this weekend, not to sell but just to support it!!
We as sellers should all do this to show were fucked up with Ebay's greedy habit, they rape the sellers that made them big year after year!
Lets act lets list huge this weekend on Chasethechuckwagon!
It is still a lot cheaper than rent, utilities, and payroll.....
A lot of times people uses offices/game stores and sell on eBay on the side to help with the bills. It's still comparing apples to oranges, a lot of people are moving online for sales, and they don't have fee control. THis is the second hike in a few months along with all the other changes being made.
I think I will only list on ebay.co.uk starting middle of next month 9% is still reasonable, shop is even a lot cheaper there
the max shipping of $4 for a game is awesome!! im sick of ripoff people trying to get like $9 to ship a $2 cart!! i was gonna make a thread whining about ludicrous s&h on ebay actually
I wonder if they're going to have a lot of people listing games in the system or accessory category?

Or in game memorbillia where there are no limits placed
for NES games, the vintage game category will make the most sense. Max $6 s&h. I have to think most resellers go this route.
I completely agree. Each new item I list is going into the vintage games category, now I just have to go back and edit all my existing listings.
I actually agree with the Herbalist too many sellers were hiding profit in the shipping. I was paying .99 for a game and paying $8 shipping. Which I don't mind as it evens out but I'm always looking for deals.

I still don't think this makes a difference. It's adding two numbers. $5 shipping and 0.99 bid or $3 bid and $3 shipping. SAME THING.
I don't understand the hpyer sensitivity towards the shipping like everyone else does, it adds up the same way. The only reason ebay is doing this is to make more money on the final value fees and auction fees. $9.99 starting bid + free shipping = more money for eBay since they can' t take % off on the shipping.
