Persistence & Politeness Pay Off!

I've been going to a local game place for 15 years now, and built much of my collection there when prices were cheaper.  But they never had games on display, you had to tell them what you want, and they go in the "back".  I had often remarked how much easier it would be if I could just step back there, but they always said no, and I understood.  Long story short, I only get there a couple times a year now, and I popped in today; after a chat with the guy, he asked me if I wanted to come back and look around.  They had tons of great games, sadly they price match to Amazon, so I didn't buy much, but I did get lots of obscure NES posters and a couple of notable manuals:  Tengen Tetris (with rental stickers) and the Pro Sport Hockey pictured.  Good day!

  • Nice did you get a good deal?
  • He had the cart and instructions to Pro Sport, wanted $50 for both, but gave me the manual for $10. The Tengen Tetris he gave me for $8 since it has stickers. I also got a stack of "other" for $7. Not too shabby.
  • Maybe hes not been doing much business. Lately a local store I used to go to about one a week has been trying to get me to stop by the store. He started to price all is stuff based off eBay/pricecharting/amazon so I couldn't justify buying anything anymore at or above eBay prices.
  • i'll take a tengen tetris with a manual for $18 anyday of the week
  • Tengen Tetris manual has two rental stickers on the front that look like they will come off, but I'm not that brave. Available for sale or trade - I don't really collect Tengen stuff.
