Is it possible to put I Wanna Be The Guy on a cartridge?

I'm not a huge PC gamer, all I ever played on there was the Command and Conquer series because it needs all the keyboard buttons for all the tasks you have to do.  I've seen a rise in the number of good looking homebrews that are on PC only and want to know if it's possible to put this on a cartridge so more people can enjoy it.

I'm sure if the rom is available it's probably possible, but which cartridge would you need as a donor?  Also all my other questions...can someone do this for me if it is possible?

  • Why the hell would anyone on freakin' Earth WILLINGLY play I Wanna Be the Guy? The whole game's intent and purpose is JUST to induce the most painful and violent rage from a person imaginable.
  • It would require a complete re-write from scratch. Not gonna happen.
  • Why on earth would anyone even want to do that when Sivak already made Battle Kid from the ground up as a nod to that game?   I guess there are a fair number of objects and level designs and so forth that probably would be hard to do on the NES, maybe if Sivak makes a SNES version of battle kid, some day someone could make a rom hack of that that would have the same levels as I wanna be the guy. Again though, I can't imagine why anyone would want to do that.
  • Gradual is right...no way in hell will a 200+MB gamemaker POS game make it on to the NES, the maker probably can't even program a real language. BK is the closest you will ever get, unless you write it yourself.
  • Gradual I bought both Battle Kids because I love the games, but I also love IWBTG because of the intense challenge. If it can't get on an NES cart, how about SNES or N64 even? I was hoping there would be a rom somewhere so it wouldn't have to be rewritten from scratch. And I have no know-how about making games so it won't be from me.
  • It'd be a huge project. This sort of thing came up at work today. Nobody will ever know the pain engineers go through to get even the most humble looking feature working. There's an enormous mountain of details even in something as seemingly simple as a hero jumping up to a ledge. The challenge of engineering video games like this means that the only people who do it REALLY FREAKING WANT TO DO IT. and those people probably have their own original ideas for a game. My guess is that IWBTG will never happen unless exactly what I said plays out: Sivak makes SNES version of battle kid with all mechanics from IWTBG (unlikely to begin with...just the all mechanics from IWTBG part, I'm sure sivak may make a snes bk...that'd be cool ), then someone makes a rom hack because for some perverse reason they actually want IWTBG on the snes instead of an original game by Sivak.
  • So basically it'd just be easier to get an NES to PC controller.
  • Yeah, that'd be your best bet. I use those all the time for games that work well with retro controllers (some retro styled games on steam for example like vvvvvv)
  • My first brewery post, forgive me
  • Okay, Sj, so what's your motive behind wanting to put that abomination *cough* I MEAN game *cough* on an older console? There's got to be a reason why someone would put a game that puts the Castlevania / Mega Man / Battletoads / Ghosts N' Goblins level of difficulty to shame on an actual console
  • What a great game. But yea, best bet is to just get a retro or PS3/360 controller and use it to play.

  • find battle kid or I wanna flip the sky.
  • Yeah your best bet would be to just get a USB NES controller adapter and play it on PC.

If you play IWBTG or Battle Kid you should definitely stream it in chat
  • I wonder, does Battle Kid have any gimmicks/mechanics/whatever you wanna call them from IWBTG? I was thinking that the best you could get to porting IWBTG to the NES would be to use BK as a base and rearrange the levels, or make them giant levels that span several screens. That would be the easiest route, unless BK's code isn't designed to be tampered with.
