Using Zelda 1 Editors

The long and short of it is in the title. I'm using these 2 programs: http://www.romhacking.net/utilities/605/ and http://www.romhacking.net/utilities/187/ . I'm just getting started in learning 6502, and figured that the fastest way to have something tangible would be to try an editor. What I don't know is if the editor manipulates the code of the game in such a way that it will only work in an emulator and not a cart. So, any advice for a noob?

  • If the ROM works in an emulator like FCEU or Nestopia without errors, there's a good chance it will work on real hardware.
  • Nintendulator is pretty accurate, it can run lots of obscure games just fine. I'd test your hack in that to see whether it stands a chance on real hardware.

I think BSNES has supported NES for quite some time, it might be really accurate too.
  • Unless you expand the Tom or change mappers, you should be fine
