Hey guys. New member here at Nintendoage. I guess a little bit about me is that I'm from Canada, and I am a sucker for physical game bonuses. Especially Soundtracks, Artbooks and plushes. I am working on a complete North American DS collection. Reason being is that the DS has been the handheld I had for a majority of my years growing up. I got the original on release day as a gift from my grandparents and I played the metroid prime hunters demo to death. When the ds lite came out I got that and went through about 8 consoles due to me breaking them (Luckily I had warranties so they didn't cost a dime to replace). I then got the dsi and xl. I also got a 3ds when the Zelda bundle was out. Anyways. When I was younger I missed out on so many great ds games as I didn't know about them at the time. When I started to collect in 2011 I realized a lot of games were quite valuable and that the ds had a wide variety of great games and its only a handheld! So I made it my goal to own every North American released DS game . My favorite items in my collection are Electroplankton SEALED Dragon Ball Z attack of the Saiyans SEALED super robot taisen OG saga (complete with OST) so anyways onto the find! I have heard that there was this weird DS Variant of the disney game bolt. This game is called Bolt Be awesome Edition. I thought to myself "I really don't want to spend that much money on a game that'll sit on my shelf forever". This game is pretty pricey and I'm still not sure the exact details on it. So I'm on ebay today paying for a kirby star stacker rental card and a new saves search popped up. This was for my search RARE DS. I thought this is probably some seller saying Pokèmon pearl is rare or something but I decided to check anyways. I then saw a game and I was really excited. It was a bolt be awesome edition! It's cart only so that's a bit disappointing but i only payed $10 for it and free shipping so I'm a Happy camper. So yeah, that's my story of me getting my bolt be awesome edition (which I ordered an hour ago) sorry of my English is bad, typing on an iPhone is a pain. Cheers and keep collecting! *edit I don't know what's wrong with my phone but its not letting me upload my proof so I'll fix it tomorrow morning*

  • Oh yeah dude, sealed Electroplankton is sweet. Welcome.
  • Welcome! Awesome back story!
  • Nice story and I miss owning Electroplankton. Yours is sealed so unless you have another it's like a love hate thing because you can make so much amazing stuff with the music, but they cheaped out and gave no way to save your work which is a shame. They do have the pieces of it on dsiware for $2 a piece and I never looked to see if those do.

I think that $10 deal on Bolt works, but perhaps it's also that less people at this rate bother with DS still so the prices are just lower and you're getting in on the ground floor. I'd think your best bet would be to tackle all the Atlus releases that came in larger sleeves hiding an audio cd in a slip with them like Legacy of Ys had and various others.
  • Yeah I own an opened copy of electroplankton.
The only atlus titles I own for the ds are super robot taisen OG saga with the cd and cover, Devil Survivor 2 and Devil survivor.
I have seen four copies of the dark spire at EB game about all of them
Didn't have the CD so I passed.
Also, is there any check list out for the most recent ds games? I'm pretty sure that the only games left ATM are shovel ware.
Any help would be appreciated ;D
  • Hello fellow Canadian! The DS is a beast of a system, I love it! What a cool system to collect for too, so many cheap games now, and so many undiscovered gems.

Congrats on Bolt! With how awful shipping is to and within canada, $10 for cart only is absolutely nothing to scoff at. I think Dream sold his cart and box for $60 a few months back, so i'd say you did very well.

I agree with Tanooki. It's a great time to go after DS stuff, as it's not the platform that alot of collectors are going after. And there are lots of casual gamers and fans selling off their old stuff now as they begin transitioning to the 3ds, so there should be lots of great finds in the wild to be had. And those boxed atlus games are great.
  • I got out of the DS to be honest, never had the attachment to it I did with the GBA and some of the games forcing touch left a bad taste with me too so I've gotten rid of everything but Legacy of Ys w/cd which is up for sale, FF3, and Fire Emblem.

I know from selling stuff, even the good items the prices are well down versus more older stuff so there's a heap of solid quality stuff you can get in excellent shape and complete too. A lot of people I think have little respect for the DS for one reason or another as it doesn't have the high ball pricing base under it. I'm sure there's a few expensive rares, but you never really hear it discussed much even like they do on Wii which was even more hated by a lot of people. DS is just that outlier with a huge pile of crap but an impressive pile of solid first and amazing third party releases so worth having and for little cash.
