New Orleans

Firstly, are there any folks on here that are living in New Orleans or the surrounding areas? God bless you all and hopefully you will not have anything close to what happened three years ago happen this week.

Secondly, the hypocrisy of the Bush regime seems to know no end. Bush said publicly that the levees would be repaired within a year and as we all know they are not, not even after three years. So with the onslaught of Hurricane Gustav about to begin, a major American city that still isn't fully rebuilt will have to deal with what potentially could be a bigger disaster than Katrina.

It makes me sick to my stomach to think that a) American citizens are not and were not properly taken care of, their city is still in shambles and the levees will break again because most of them are not rebuilt b) what I call the September 11th syndrome - where after a disaster that we knew was possible and had reasonable intelligence that said disaster would occur we do nothing to prepare for it, yet, after it happens the U.S. government goes ape shit and uses measures that are basically devices of control and fear (i.e. airport security measures, manufacturing evidence to rally the American people around a war with Iraq and now mass media overload coverage of the Hurricane). Bush and Cheney both aren't going to the RNC because they want to help with this hurricane. If they were so concerned why hadn't they done anything previously to protect New Orleans when government engineers said this would happen? Why aren't the levees fixed after three years?

I had to vent because I think this is atrocious that Americans are being affected. Our government went bullistic after Sept. 11th but took so long to respond to Katrina when it was in our homeland. And its still not even fixed???? I just pray that now nobody gets hurt or killed or losses too much because of the ineptness of our government.

  • Totally agree with you dude, it is absolutely rediculous that the government hasn't done anything about it! I feel really sorry for the people down there, I hope nothing comes close to what happened with Katrina.

  • C'mon man. Stop bashing the Republicans. Some levees were repaired, but constructing new ones is a huge undertaking costing millions. Building/rebuilding a city that is under sea level is ridiculous anyway.

I have never seen, heard so many people be disrespectful to a US President the way that many liberal democrats have been the past 8 years. THAT IS A SHAME!   Face it, the USA is not composed of the same liberals and beliefs that are rampant and seen in NY, Chicago, and Los Angeles.

  • ^ More ridiculous that millions and millions spent overseas to fund a war?

I'm bashing Bush and his regime and his empty promises. If you don't find anything completely immoral about what happened down there, why it happened or why the city is still not repaired, then you are a fucking moron.

Quickly name three things this man has done to improve our country.

    Fuck it, name one.

  • LA is not repaired because everyday people like myself don't want to invest down there.  Rebuild so that this crap can happen again.

Why don't we keep this forum NES based and leave your political ideas out.

"then you are a fucking moron" <---- is this appropriate?

2 degrees in Business and Math, and a 3.94 GPA.

    Can we lock this thread!

  • Here we go, this thread has now become politics...

I cant see any positives from Bush's 8 years of bullshit. The economy, the deficit, the war...

  • I am not calling you a moron personally, rather if you see nothing wrong with what went down in New Orleans then you are a moron. I don't care what your GPA is either have some compassion for your fellow man unlike your present president. Rebuild it because it is the right thing to do for all of our fellow Americans down there. This should not even have happened which was one of my points earlier. It happened in large part due to the irresponsible actions of our government. They ignored warning signs and advice from really smart dudes.

This is the Everything Else section as in everything other then NES.

And if being liberal means giving a shit if people live or die then I guess I'm a liberal. Me = Guilty of not caring for only myself. You conservatives don't seem to understand that we all live together as one race. Check your head man.

  • I don't like Bush to much either...but there is no need for name calling Vito.

  • I care about other people, but I don't believe in big government, nor do I believe in government always bailing people out for stupid decisions.  There are some things that you don't do, and in my opinion, building on land that is sinking an inch a year is not a good idea.  Talk about wasting money; reinvesting down there is dumb.  Catastrophe is inevitable down there.

I care about people.  I only commented because people who always spew this nonsense about the country, government, and President is treasonous IMO. I am old fashioned that way in the sense that I respect an authority figure and the position even if I disagree with the person and their actions.

  • Since we are going to talk about it I might as well throw in my two cents

i HATE and LOATHE Bush to the extreme. Didnt vote for him, Im not a democrat or republican but rather want the best person to do the job. Al Gore should of been that person IMO. Kerry v Bush....boths retards but we should have known better seeing Bush in his first 4, we gave him a mullegon for 9/11, our bad. AND NOW I think were truely screwed cause both candidates suck hard. McCain is just like Bush except hell prob die in office, which leaves the mother/daughter child scandal to take it over. Obama is a good talker thats it, try to remember he doesnt write his speeches tho, and I DONT want to let someone in the presidency that is like 80% muslim....i dont care how it affects foreign relations, just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Not to mention whenever I hear him talk I THINK hes lying out his ass. Ill probably just either not vote or waste it on an independant so that next time theyll get more publicity money next time around for the smaller folks.

But heres a little chart for you guys, we all remember the good times (92-00) gas was a buck

    image
  • The 'you' in my earlier post was the royal 'you'. Indeed there is no need for name calling. But you've got to have your head up your ass and turned around if you think that its fine or business as usual or appropriate (to use your word) that our government can drum up enough money and support to fund a baseless war in Iraq and somehow cannot manage to rebuild a major American city. Its completely backwards. We as human beings have an obligation to help other human beings out. What makes New Orleans less important or more important than any other place in our country?

Its funny that you are so fast to support Bush when I talk about his failed promises (Katrina, Mission Accomplished, No Child Left Behind, to name a few of his many, many failures) and when I talk about why hasn't our government helped our own people while carrying out wars in the name of freedom, you label this sentiment as liberal. What the fuck is wrong with you man? Is it liberal to give a shit about other people? If Bush was a Democrat I'd be saying the same thing man. Its about what has happened and what continues to happen and why some people are just willing to deal with it and not care.

The freedom we fight and die for commands us to question our leaders and question their actions. That's why our country is great.

Do you not find anything wrong with what Bush has done?

Please tell me what good he has done in 8 years? Please tell me.

You may be right about the investing in the land down there. I meant it more of like investing in the people.

Do you know anything about public education to say that NCLB doesn't work or didn't help. Or are you just repeating what you hear from the liberal media?

I am a teacher, and I think NCLB is great.  You would be suprised how many teachers are not qualified to teach their subject areas and complain about having to go back to school to learn their craft.  Teachers are now forced to be certified.

Also, if you saw how much money was really wasted in the school system, you would be amazed, and it is the urban school systems that are really blowing the money.  I work in an urban NJ school system and it is outrageous. And don't forget, NJ is a highly Democratic state, with soem districts having state appointed superintendents.

NCLB takes money away from schools that don't use it well.  I have sat in on many meeting where people have said, "spend it, or we won't get it next year."  Well, these people don't think that .... now the taxes of parents go up, forcing them to work more, not being there for there kids, making our job harder, all because of wasteful spending.

There is your one good thing President Bush accomplished.

  • Treasonous to disrespect the President? HAHAHAHA, It's called Freedom of Speech and is protected by the First Amendment of our US Constitution.

If President Bush asked you to jump off a cliff, would you?

C'mon pedro! Is it freedom of speech for me to curse out my mom? You just don't say some  things.

Plus, it is the way people say it.... "Bush this, Bush that."  They leave out "President" and that is rude and discourteous.

  • Politics will only cause tension amongst friends here on NA. Not that they shouldn't be discussed here, just not a good idea in my opinion to "make an enemy" on accident discussing such touchy subjects. I am in enough heat right now, I think I will stay out of this one.

It has to do with yearly benchmarks too.  Getting more kids to pass the tests each year.  It forces the schools to track the kids better instead of just a one(one year with a teacher) and done.

What does your g/f have to say?  I am interested in hearing what she disagrees with.

If you are a teacher then you must know about special needs and non-English speaking students. If you are a teacher do you pander to the test in order to qualify for funding? Being a teacher you also know that not all students learn the same way or at the same pace.

Did you also know that NCLB mandates that all students' information be given to Military Recruiters?

I'm all for increase funding to public schools, especially when the money is used correctly. Interestingly, the wasted money of public schools is paralleled by our government's irresponsible spending. To blame this on wasteful spending in education is ridiculous. The amount wasted in education is miniscule compared to the money we are wasting daily in Iraq.

Would our president pass a NCLB test? I tend to think he wouldn't until his father came to the school and talked with the teacher. Or had Jeb magically go in there and change the test scores.

True. You are a good man Mike.

And at the advice of ninfan I will now say "President Bush" when speaking of the worst president in U.S. history. He has trampled the Constitution and a majority of our rights. President Bush doesn't care about New Orleans or the children that are left behind by his policies. President Bush spent more time at his ranch than he did in the White House. President Bush is incompetent, hypocritical and dumb.
  • ^^ lmao, it does sound better with president before his name..
  • Well, I generally don't say much about President Bush, but to be far he was only in office for 9 months before the Twin Towers were hit... Some want to blame bush for that, but obviously Clinton was in office when the attacks were planned..

There is alot wrong with America right now, Republican or Democrat, we need people to work to restore this country to its' once former glory... Both parties, with the independents as well need to work together to get America back to where it was..

This topic only makes me look forward to November when we can vote in a new president, when who has fresh ideas and believe in Change, not just talking about Change, Change, Change!! I will leave names out of this as to not stir up any trouble... May God help us, and may God bless the USA once again!

I wasn't going to post any more because I don't want to argue, but your dialogue makes you sound angry and immature.
  • From Rolling Stone Issue 1060, September 4th, 2008, pg. 51:

"Then there was Hurricane Katrina. Historians may yet record that the debacle in New Orleans, rather than the deepening morass in Iraq, marked the turning point in the public's evaluation of Bush and his administration. No matter how badly the White House bungled the political and military situation in Iraq, the televised scenes of death and desperation in New Orleans generated an even deeper outrage. Andrew Jackson, the general and future president, had saved New Orleans from British invasion in 1815; in 2005, in the aftermath of Katrina, George Bush appeared to have surrendered the city without a fight to a natural disaster. Refusing to cut short his summer vacation when the hurricane hit, he praised manifestly inept subordinates, housed survivors in toxic trailers and provided no meaningful federal action to rebuild the city. The catastrophe dramatized the results of decades of Republican indifference to the plight of the nation's urban poor; it also dramatized the logical conclusion of an anti-government, right-wing ideology that, under Bush, had turned once-admired government operations like the Federal Emergency Management Agency into nests of cronyism and futility. And it all unfolded live on TV, as Americans watched in real time while the federal government, through incompetence and neglect, abandoned a great American city to its fate."

"If you are not angry, then you are not paying attention"

Thanks for the compliments. I would hardly call my dialogue immature though. It was used to prove how ridiculous his presidency is and how he obtained it.

P.S. - "President" Bush has a small wee wee.
