Well, a bunch of jargon and words about myself.
Hi you all.
Name's Travis, and video game collecting is something I love doing. I began video game collecting about a year ago for one reason, which I feel is the typical reason: To get back the games from my childhood that I enjoyed so much.
Well, that didn't take very long. So once I got all of the games I had from when I was a kid, I wanted to get anything that I found to be interesting, or anything with an interesting backstory. This has been something I really enjoy learning about. I love learning about the history behind these things, and of course, rare items typically have the most interesting tales behind them I find.
I live in a part of Oregon where Craiglist just completely sucks. You get these people that are toxic for video game collecting (inflated prices on crummy items, etc), so I took to buying on eBay primarily as well as a couple local video game stores (I've become good friends with the owners). I started going to swap meets, retro gaming expos, and just looking for any opportunity to associate with other fellow collectors, and just get more knowledge on this stuff. Video game collecting is where most of my time goes these days.
I will definitely be posting in the WTB/Buyer's section to expand my game shelves. I don't typically sell, but I do buy and trade. I am always looking for rare, unusual or interesting items for the collection.
Whew, that was a lot of typing. Hi!

What swap meets? I'm interested!!!. From Portland, run a little YouTube channel. There is the retro game swap meet jan 18th. That is coming up. I'll be a vender there. PM you haves wants. Maybe we can make a trade!
I attended the Portland Retro Gaming Expo this month, and I do plan on going to the swap meet in Portland on the 18th of January. :-)
I'll send you a PM of some of the games I'm after.
Eugene (where I hail from) is absolutely terrible. If you look on CL for Eugene, you'll only find cheap items for high prices, and the same ads over and over. They do have a couple local shops in Eugene that I really like, but that's pretty much it.
Maybe had a handful of good garage sales this year. Each year it seems to be getting harder. More and more people are into collecting which is good for the community but harder to get those cheap deals.
Cali, Texas and a lot of southern states seem more where it's at. More swap meets and flea markets going on.
Come by and say hi in January!
Your story is pretty typical, both with the resellers around here and how you got into collecting. I myself had a similar story, get back all of the games from my childhood. Then I tried to find fun games that escaped my radar. Then I collected games based on my favorite developers. Now I'm collecting cardboard boxes for games without the carts and if I ever get the carts, there's no chance I'll ever play them.
At any rate, I wish you luck and welcome to the forum!

Another fellow Oregonian! I'm from Springfield, right next to Eugene. Welcome to Nintendo Age!

Hi!
I actually work in Springfield, so I'm pretty familiar with that area. I'm not going to name off the resellers here that love to inflate prices, but if you're from this area, then I'm sure you already know who they are. They're the ones who post the same ads on CL every day.
Thanks for the welcome! If I manage to get the games in my WTB list in the signature, this Nintendo Age adventure will be a success. Who knows, maybe I'll also find a Stadium Events... That's my ultimate goal.
And Dain, unfortunately my Trip World is not CIB. There is one on eBay for over 3 grand, and it isn't worth that much to me personally.
I've found great stuff around town, though. Countless items. Usually hit up CdX, Big City Gamin and Headquarters a couple times a week and find something good from at LEAST one of those stores.
VGHQ has great prices, but I don't see too many rares in that store. I personally think it's because they sell games at low prices, so they don't give a high trade value for the rare games.
Big City is always willing to haggle, which is nice. I also see at least one rare game in their store once every few weeks.
