Very nice find. How much did you pay for if you don't mind sharing?
I don't mind sharing what I paid for it because it will prove you can still find deals out there and we don't have to resort to using eBay for "rare" games. I paid 184 and some change for it. Which I think is a pretty good deal considering the condition of the cart.

The guy looked it up on the computer and then priced it at 184? What guide is he using? An old Funcoland ad from Nintendo Power circa 1994?
Exactly!!!! To be fair though they usually give pretty good prices but I heard they had another copy there at one time about a year ago and it sold for 290ish so I guess they took the marker into consideration.
I'm going to post before and after pics of the cart. I hope it cleans up good!
I've never had luck with alcohol but I'll defer to the others. I must be doing it wrong. I have taken to using an orange based degreaser for marker and it does well.
That's not as bad as I feared because the markings, while many, aren't thick or dark. It could be a cheap quality marker and easier to remove.
I tried some isopropyl alcohol on the back of the cart to practice on since I can switch it out if something goes wrong. But it's being really stubborn to come off. I can't seem to get it to not be visible. I'm afraid to use something stronger right now.
Try a softer bristled toothbrush. Sometimes you just need a little extra to get into the 'texture' on the cart. If you do go the 'magic eraser' route be very careful, it doesn't take much to start wearing the 'texture' down. Congrats on that find though!
Whatever you do do not use a magic eraser. Believe it or not, use a q tip dipped in brake fluid. Let it sit for a minute and wipe it off with a paper towel. Repeat until marker is gone. Works every time and does not damage the cart.

I just have been using isopropyl alcohol so far and this stuff must have been in here for quite some time. Someone on here said nail polish remover, but I'm still nervous about that.

Acetone (nail polosh remover) would probably mess up the plastic.
I added another pic of the progress to my photo Bucket album. Check it out. At the bottom it looks like the cart has turned brownish or something. All that was done with just rubbing alcohol.
Nice find! I'd pay that any day. The shop here is the same. Even if they saw a game was worth $500+ they'd just sell it for $200 or something (depending on how much they got it for). They sell it fast and make money, a win-win.

I still think you should try some "Goo Gone" or a similar citrus cleaner. I have used it to remove marker from a cart before.

I actually ended up trying some goo gone. It helped a little bit. My friend recommended me trying the dry erase marker method. Doesn't sound harmful and it might clean it right up. Well thats what he keeps telling me.
Dot 3 brake fluid is the easiest method by far. Depending on the ink, it can take a few applications but is always faster than alcohol.
There is a chance the permanent ink has discolored the cart. I have come across a few instances where the ink will come off the cart, but the letters remain visible underneath because the ink has discolored the plastic (usually a brown color).
Goo gone, then soap/water and shimmy towel, then repeat over and over until done. Keep goo away from label unless you use very light amounts. I wouldn't use a magic eraser ever on an nes cart personally and I would practice buffing and rubbing on a shit cart first.

Yeah that's an amazing deal, especially considering that cart looks like it will be in excellent condition after you clean the gunk off the plastic.
I thought it was also! I mean it's not a 5 buck garage sale find but it's still the most I have ever spent on a game to date.
Plus it's actually a good game and I will want to collect and complete it.

Do the magic eraser guys need glasses or something lol?
EVERYTIME a magic eraser is used on a cart, it burns some of the texture off, and smears the plastic. EVERTIME
Dont believe me, take it outside and look at the cart in sunlight.
DO NOT USE A MAGIC ERASER!
Go with the alcohol or brake fluid idea. NO MAGIC ERASER
Especially if your a newb at using the magic eraser.
I use a magic eraser on the tops of NES and SNES consoles i resell to brighten them up a bit, BUT do not use it on a copy of little samson lol

I know from experience on that one, burns the plastic and really messes up stuff.
I would try goo gone, alcohol, or the lighter/brake fluid idea.
