Light guns and CRT TV issues
I have a 36 inch Toshiba CRT TV 4:3 standard definition but with a flat screen not convex like CRT TV's were back when NES and SNES were new.
Can the flat screen be an issue for the light guns, I have the Konami Justifier and the Shooter Series Super Scope compatible light gun and both when calibrating are accurate, but as soon as you start playing the game they shoot all over the place unless your an inch from the screen. I usually sit approx 6 feet away.

Duh, just noticed you calibrated these..Im stupid sometimes.
How are these calibrated? Seems very odd that it passes the test yet doesnt work during gameplay
If not, you have to grab another TV. You can buy them cheap at flea markets for anywhere from $5-$20.

Now if I could only use it as often as I like.
The way theses guns work is that they have a photo diode in them (light receiver). So technically your gun doesn't shoot it receives. Scan lines or not, both screen methods put out light to the gun so that isn't the issue.
The reason light guns don't work on the modern TVs is SCALING not SCAN LINES. The new TVs will recieve the input signal and convert it to the scale of your TV causing a delay. This delay is enough to throw out the timing of hit registration the screen sends to the controller (the strange flash or something similar you get when you pull the trigger) meaning every shot will be a miss. A flat screen CRT should have no issues.
Both guns work fine for all the other games ('Tin Star' the exception for the orange shooter series gun. I'm pretty sure that's normal though). Any ideas? Is it just my pal consoles/game. I'd love for someone to try it out on a super famicom or ntsc Super Nintendo with the appropriate carts and see if they have the same results.
