New Collector
Hello all,
I've just recently decided to start collecting reproduction and homebrew games. After seeing a thread somewhere else about Chuck Yaegar's Fighter Combat being released by a prototype collector, I joined here and grabbed a copy. Since then, I've noticed how many reproduction carts are actually available and decided having a collection made entirely of games that never had a commercial release would be a rather interesting collection that could actually fit into an apartment. I've been telling friends that I'll be collecting video games that don't exist.
I'm also looking at the homebrew carts available, and will be picking up some of those as well as time goes on, with the 8bit Xmas 2013 cart being the first of those I will own. This set looks to be a lot smaller than the reproduction/translation set I can find, but I may simply be looking in the wrong places before.

Just so you know, most reproduction games are not really wise as far as longevity is concerned. Most are made with Eproms and wiring that will not last nearly as long as offical games will. I see you collect Retrozone stuff which is good because the games are made with all new parts. But as far as others go if you are looking at this in a long term sense the games will most likely have problems in the near future. Just thought I would let you know because with the prices of these games it will definitely start to add up.
Welcome to the party!

Do you have any experience with reproduction carts failing on you? I am aware of how most of them are made, and that ones that use new boards are rare. I know that CYFC is all new hardware, and that it's an exception to the rule. But I have not seen many people decrying repro carts in general on here, or discussion that X repro shop is better or worse than Y repro shop outside of the list of reputable and untrustworthy merchants on the forum here. If there are a lot of minor details or variance between different repro makers, do you have any personal input?
I'm not saying any one repro maker is better than the other. The wiring may be cleaner, the labels may look nicer but when you get down to it it's all the same. EPROMS will eventually lose their ability to hold data where as mask roms of original games will not in the near future. I would check out that infiniteneslives site and keep buying from Retrozone. Or start making them yourself. I'm saying this because it sounds like your serious about buying lots of them.
