Earth Seeker - English Translation

Purpose: To make a complete translation and allow others to fix my Japanese. Unless I can find more talented Japanese translators.

What broke Doombringer's patch before:

Incorrect patching and poor hex replacement caused game crashes!

Proper Steps

1 - Develop the patch file using .ips format

2 - Extract the four .FFX files

3 - Create an Iso or download the game.

4 - Patch the .FFX files

5 - Use Wiiscrubber to replace the existing files on the disc .iso

Current Status:

NOTE: This is obviously the biggest part. ALSO, there's an issue that the Earth Seeker.iso likes to crash (black screen or lock up) when too much is modified. So, I'm doing about 10-40 lines of translations, then test the iso. If it works, great. I make a backup and continue working. If it doesn't, I have to spend time identifying why it doesn't work.

SysMessages and GameMessages will be translated first and released to the community. Now this Beta will only be Menu's and some menu dialogue. This will be rough. I'm hoping to have other translator assist in the future. Below you'll see my break down of the translation. I'm doing very quick and rough translations. I'll correct grammar and context, when the actual hex editing is done (or if I end up developing a patcher).

(Menu's and such)

SYSMESSAGES.FFX 4% Done

GAMEMESSAGES.FFX 3% Done

(Items)

FFXFILE.PAC 1% Done

(Dialogue - This one will be left for last - VERY LARGE)

ETCMESSAGES.FFX 1% Done

Areas that need identifying:

Title Screen and other picture based areas, i.e. STRAP screen and Tutorial screens, which are hard coded.

Initial Proof of Concept:

Proof of editing done using a simple Hex program. You'll see mistakes here and there, but this was the initial attempt to see if it worked

  • That's a real impressive undertaking, other than DoomBringer I don't know of any other group or individual attempting to translate this game (I heard his patch was broken anyway). I wish u the best in this, I have little to no knowledge on the subject of translating so I hope other interested and helpful individuals will join you. The game always looked dope so I hope to be able to play it, even if it's just the menu and items that can be understood lol. Thanks again for doing this, hope to see some of your progress in the near future.
  • Ever since founding about this game 2 years ago. I have always wanted to play this game. This game had art direction that i really enjoyed(art direction of this game is quite similar to Xenoblade, Enslaved, Pandora's Tower etc), gameplay was exactly i wanted(star wars knights of the old republic like gameplay) and i also love Monster hunter and Jrpg in particular. But i didn't know japanese so i couldn't play or had any hope of playing unless someone was translating then today i found about your project. I will support you till the end please finish this project. Maybe some translaters will help if word is spread about this. Thank you. I hope that you don't leave this project like Doombringer did.
  • Hey man, I was looking around to see what doombringer's status was as I have a computer that can run the game (as I did not when that was current) and stumbled upon this.

I'm fairly adept with Japanese and would love to help you out with whatever in my spare time, even if it's just translating a few table entries here in there when I have a minute or two. I'll PM you with my email, as I made an account here just to respond and offer my services.

But yeah, I'm a Japanese translator/Programming student and if you get the t-tables on a shared document drive I'll crunch through a few hundred a week most likely.
  • I emailed you. I have all the dialogue and menus in spreadsheets. Translating slowly. I pmed you thanks
  • I'm interested with this game so, here is a question

    Hows the project coming along?
  • Need a translator, I've had some people ask for script dumps, but I haven't heard back.
