    Weren't those PAL only?

Yup. Smurfs as well. And Beauty and the Beast. Are those going to be counted?

    They better be! *shakes fist*

What's interesting is Beauty & The Beast was actually scheduled to be released here in the US. I wonder what happened...I'm going to make a new post and ask!

It became the basis of a Canadian sitcom, but the game was an original creation (for the Commodore 64 first, I think.)

Dr Jekyll and mr Hyde a classic monster movie? I mean, sure it is, but it was a classic novel before that.

There's a couple on my list like thar. Puss ' Boots comes to mind as does Hook as well.

I have to draw the line somewhere
  • Maniac Mansion the TV show is actually based on the game...rather than the other way around.

It would be like putting Super Mario Bros. On there because a cartoon came out later.
  • Hmm, interesting. Can't blame a guy for tryin.
  • Don't blame you at all. I thought it deserved to go on the list as well until I found out that the show came after.

This list is like...A year in the making now.
  • Defenders of Dynatron city was a game first.

Any info to back that up? I'm fairly sure you're right but I need to make sure.

These were essentially launched fairly close to each other- and are sort of like how Pokemon is synonymous with Anime - Game - Trading Card all at once.

I was into weird failure francises as a child and I owned all 6 comics a year before I bought the Defenders of Dynatron City games. It was the first and only NES game I ever got brand new and apon realese during the life span of the Nes. That was several months later after FOX promoted the animated series for months which never aired, and the comics had just finished there short 6 issue run.

  • Found another one!

Casino Kid and Casino Kid II are based on a manga called $1,000,000 Kid in Japan...not sure what to put Casino Kid II as though since it was never released in Japan.

Actually, it's based on the Lone Ranger cartoon series.

  • Wasn't Fester's Quest based on the old TV show?

Also, I don't think Gun.Smoke was actually based on the TV show with the same name. I remember reading about that.

Hahaha, of course... but the design and style is the comic. It's actually a pretty cool little comic if you can get a translated version. Only 6 books out of 56 have been officially translated and released, but I'm sure you'd be able to find translated versions on the web. My French isn't very good, so I miss a lot of the clever phrasing and jokes to the point I need to read it in English. Very much in the vein of Asterix & Obelix if you know who those chaps are.
  • I know this is an old topic, but Road Runner (Tengen) is missing.
