CLOSED:

Hi Nintendo Age!

So, I am new here, but like many, have always loved video games!  After getting into collecting more seriously over the last couple years, I found my way to Nintendo Age and wanted to introduce myself.

Now before some moderators get upset that I’m posting in the wrong forum, I am here with an idea that I came up with to break the ice and give back to some fellow collectors who, like me, enjoy the hunt for a great steal!  (I used to trade music on a forum that did raffles and freebies, etc.  They were always fun and gave me something to look forward to!)

Behold…

THE “LOW-BALLER’S AUCTION-RAFFLE” (February 2014)

If there are 3 things I hate its auctions (especially losing them on ebay), raffles (only one lucky bastard gets it) and LOWBALLERS! (But seriously, while nothing compares to finding a diamond in the rough, why are we always completely insulted because someone would offer the price at which we managed to snag it… how rude! LOL).  So naturally, I decided to combine all three and hopefully entertain some folks!

Here’s how it works…

  1. A minimum “bid” is set for the item of the month.  The minimum bid must be placed (via thread post) to get a ticket and be included in the raffle.

  2. Here’s where it gets interesting… For every set amount of money “bid” higher than the minimum buys you more raffle tickets and therefore better odds.  There will be a maximum bid price set to keep with the “LowBaller” theme.

  3. After a pre-set period of time the “auction” will conclude.  I select a ticket randomly and that lucky person gets the item at their committed bid price.

  4. FREE SHIPPING*  (*anything outside of US we split shipping 50/50)

got it?

February 2014 item: The Adventure of Batman and Robin (SNES)

From my personal collection, cart and label are in great shape and includes an original SNES dust cover.

  • Minimum bid: $15 (1 ticket).

  • Every additional $5 is another ticket.

  • Maximum bid: $30 (4 tickets total).

  • (so... acceptable bids, $15, $20, $25, $30)

  • ENDS: Sunday – February 9 at 11:59PM (PST).

Just to clarify, you ONLY spend money if you win, so bet what you are willing to spend if you are picked.  The idea is that you could potentially get this relatively collectible and expensive game shipped to you for as low as $15!  (I think I paid $50 for it).  And the most you possibly could spend is $30, so if you drop $30 in the thread and don't get picked, no sweat, you had fun anyway!.  No matter how you slice it it’s a steal!  It all depends if you want to improve your odds of getting your name pulled and are willing to pay the maximum bid if you win.

February 2014 Bidding Question: (an answer must be included in your post with your bid)… have some fun people…

What is your video game guilty pleasure?

... you know, the embarrassing game you played as a kid, or a historically bad game that you loved for some unknown and irreversible reason.

My answer: Batman Forever (SNES)…. I guess I thought most SNES cart games had a loading “HOLD”… lol

I always played it growing up and thought it was a great game, but it is listed on most Worst SNES lists.  0.o

Honorable Mention: Chip's Challenge for PC... the hours i spent... quite sad really

Still reading this?.... just a couple more general rules

> NO Personal Message (PM) bids allowed.  You must post on the thread with a bid amount to be included in the raffle.

> Your bid must follow the set minimum, maximum, and ticket interval guidelines. (ie, can’t bid $11, $23, $36.50)

> PayPal ONLY.  If posted payment of winning bidder is not accepted 72 Hours after announced, you will forfeit your win and I will draw a new name out of the hat.

> Once I post “CLOSED” on the thread, the game is over.  Drawing will follow and be posted the following morning (Monday 2/10).

The last thing I do want to mention…

Some will read this post and probably think that it’s just one huge scam.  You might think that I’m just going to PM every person, tell them they won, and bolt with the money.  While it seems genius, this couldn’t be further from the case.  This is for fun and because I want to make a good first impression.  If anyone out there is skeptical, send me a PM and let’s talk.  I can tell you about my favorite games, or send you pics of my collection.  I am a real person and I have a real passion for retro games.  I am also on eBay as a seller and buyer (Portabello).  You can look up my recent feedback profile.  Also, if the winner posts their win in the Finders Keepers forum, than maybe this can be a fun thing every month that will gain more legitimacy with skeptics.

To those who like Vegas and want to add some excitement to their day-to-day, GOOD LUCK! and let’s get bidding!

PM for any questions, see you Sunday night!

  • Very interesting way to auction a game off, seems like it would be a good deal even at $30. I'm going to move this over to the "NA Auctions" section of the forums though, good luck!
  • oops, just noticed there was an auction forum... thanks!
  • I'm pretty sure raffles are not allowed on Nintendo Age.
  • i talked to a moderator, and they said it is OK, because there is only 1 buyer. I'm not collecting $15 per ticket like a real raffle, you just place a bid of what you would be willing to pay between $15-$30 and your bid determines your odds of winning the low-ball deal with me for the game.

  • Welcome to NA! Interesting way to auction off a game. As long as the mods are cool with it, I'm in! Count me in for $15 please.

Video game guilty pleasure? I used to think Silent Service was the greatest game ever made, and rented it multiple times as a kid. For what it's worth, I fire up Silent Hunter III on the PC for some good convoy hunting fun every once in a while still. Something about submarine games...and sims..

Anyhow..welcome! Also, if I might make a minor suggestion. Could you change the auction end time to reflect NA time? 11:59pm PST is easy for me since I'm on the same coast, but the NA clock is more or less universal for everybody here.
  • thanks for the suggestion stinkerhubbin!

*** Bids will now end at 11:59 NA time (or 23:59) on Sunday Feb. 9 ***

And just to clarify again for others, your "bid" is only a commitment if you win. just like a real auction, if you put $30 as your bid, you don't owe any money if you lose. this is not an actual raffle. i'm just picking the winner randomly and a higher bid improves your odds.

    sorry for the confusion
