5-screw Alpha Mission 3-screw Donkey Kong 3-screw Donkey Kong Jr. 3-screw Gyromite 5-screw Mega Man 5-screw Star Force 5-screw Super Pitfall 3-screw Volleyball
Also, it should be noted that the 3-screw Soccer has some slight argument over its existence (Dain thinks it's out there, dangevin says it isn't, Erik hopes it is ()...I haven't seen one myself...I'd call that one unconfirmed for now).
Those 8 that I listed are the most difficult of the bunch. DK, DK Jr., Mega Man, and Star Force are where the real money is on that list (5-screw Mega Man and Star Force would probably bring $50-$70 each loose, and the other two around $40 each loose...may God help us all if someone turns up a hangtab box for Mega Man or Star Force ).
Let me be the first to say that I sincerely hope you can score a MM 5-screw for $50, Matt...
Also these rarity numbers were fine for the time they were published (very early into the NA community's awareness of these variants) and need some tweaking. But they're a fine guideline.
I just don't want anyone getting a 3-screw Donkey kong and thinking they have an R10 on their hands. Dain made it very clear in his article that these are RELATIVE RARITIES - describing that they're not anywhere near the rarities you see in the database. Since only a very small % of the community cares about these, the awareness is next to nil, whereas pretty much everyone who's ever googled "NES" knows that SE and NWC are the big baddies. More come to light and are properly marketed.

Eh...to be fair, I have no real frame of reference for a 5-screw Mega Man (which is why I just kinda said $50-$70). The numbers given were meant to be estimates...
To be fair there is NO CONFIRMED 3 Screw Gumshoe either!
Yeah, I knew I was forgetting something else . Btw, until I made this post, we were at the same post count...
And yes, dangevin is right, this list is for US releases only. Though I do wonder how the other regions would stack up (no pun intended). I'd imagine 5-screw carts of most of the other regions (especially the PAL regions) would be significantly rarer, given their later release vs. the US releases...
If anyone is interested I just picked up a Non Hang-Tab Gyromite box for anyone that might have a 3 screw Naked Gyromite. I used to have the only 2 of these boxes known till I traded one to OCDSteeldor. Not sure how many IF ANY others have been found but PM me if interested. Seth... oh Seth...
Also could someone post a pic of the 5 screw mega man and 3 screw gyromite. On the gyromite is there anything on the label that you can tell if its the 3 or 5?
There's been no proper recorded sales at open market - this game has no "book." Whatever the variant guys are willing to put up for it, and usually that happens privately. And i'm sure that would change depending on a lot of circumstances - who's in the market, condition, timing! I'm sure we're talking three digits though.
Tennis is borderline uncommon/common in either form. Most of the time it will show up in bulk lots. I got all of my variants for this game incidentally.
No cart only variant will bring more than their lesser rare counter part, at the exception of DK, DK Jr., Star Force, Alpha Mission, Gyromite, and.. (now that we can say it out loud) Mega Man.
For hangtab non-hangtab box, it is more complicated, and a non-hangtab Mario Arcade would be worth more than the hangtab version, tra lala tra lala.
I've got a 5 screw Super Pitfall. I saw an auction BIN for $35 on ebay, but working with one data point it's hard for me to determine the value. If people are interested in these things, I'd be willing to trade mine.
By the way, this is my first post. Nice to meet you all.
Howdy, Brian. Just because of the relative rarity I'd say the one you have is probably worth 2-3x the price of a normal one. It's pretty tough to find, but it does show up enough that if you're patient and vigilant, you'll get one on your own. That kind of limits the top end of the price.
My estimate, if it's in really nice shape, about $20. If you see something sitting around up at eBay, it's a safe bet that it's on the high side.

I'll transcribe the Oct ezine article into an HTML table.

Main ones to watch out for:
5-screw Alpha Mission
3-screw Donkey Kong
3-screw Donkey Kong Jr.
3-screw Gyromite
5-screw Mega Man
5-screw Star Force
5-screw Super Pitfall
3-screw Volleyball
Also, it should be noted that the 3-screw Soccer has some slight argument over its existence (Dain thinks it's out there, dangevin says it isn't, Erik hopes it is (
and those are the only ones that are worthwhile?, or the only ones that were between the switch from 5 - 3?

I have a 5 screw
Wizards and Warriors
lode Runner
Of the rare ones off this list. What would their price be?
