Nintendo World championship bought today!!!!

Nintendo World Championship 1990 - Grey # 275 Found!

FULL ALBUM

So for all of you following I picked up the game today! Here is an album with all of its glory

It is a beautiful piece of gaming history and although I would like to keep it I will probably end up selling it to help fund my dream of owning my own game store. Before you complain about me reselling an amazing piece of video game history I would like you to think of what you would do in my situation.

My original thread with the backstory of how I got it:

"Like the title says i'm soon going to be going to purcahse a nintendo world championship 1990 grey cart from someone from my school. After posting an add asking if anyone had any video games they wanted to sell I was approached by a kid talking about Playstation 2 games and xbox games he had. Going back and forth he finally mentioned that his uncle had recently given him some nes games if I was interested in those. After him posting the lot of games and reading the title Nintendo World Championship 1990 I was very skeptical because I thought he was trolling me because he's known to be this type of person. I didn't want to offer him 150 dollars because I wouldn't feel comfortable with my self so he agreed on reasearching the prices and getting back to me.  Going back and forth about the lot of games over a span of 3 days he finally said he would bring them in to school for me to get a better look and worry about condition......minus the copy of Nintendo World Championship that he found out was worth 4000$ After going on a rant to him about how this whole time I thought he was trolling followed by the question " Are you telling me you seriously have a copy of this game or are you really trolling me?" He replied with a photo of him holding the game up with a smile on his face.

I then offered him 1000 dollars cash and we latered negotiated price and reached the conclusion that if I could open the cart to verify it's real would give him 2.5k for it.

Now my question is how can I verify its real when I meet him tomorrow? Any thing I can do myself to make sure i'm 100% its a legit copy?"

EDIT: If you guys are interested in making offers I set up a seperate form with all the info!

  • Don't you dare sell the gray holy grail!

You must keep it...in a high quality case...in a uncrackable vault...which is located in the bermuda triangle...surrounded with sharks that have freakin lasers on their heads.
  • Ever since I was a kid ive wanted to open my own game store... to think I might be so close. I would love to keep it and add it to my collection but I would LOVE to own my own store and have a place set up for tourneys every friday and great deals on games.
  • $2500! What a score my man. Congrats.
  • actually we ended up agreeing on 2350 after some negotiating and it came with some great playstation 2 games and additional nes games that ended up totaling 200$+ together
  • Nice score!!! I'll buy it if you want to sell. PM with how much you need for it.

Obviouslly I won't post too many pictures until the deal is over but here is one post of the cart itself for your guys feedback. "

Wait... so a person you know from school sold you the cart for $2,350 and he thought it was worth $4,000? Did you tell him it sold for a lot more than that online? And now your planning to sell the cart for no less than 15,000...? I wonder how he feels about that...

  • Awesome score! Great story! Thank you for sharing. If you're really selling it. I'd be interested.
  • Flippin' it on a friends deal.. kinda shitty, but good luck to you none the less.
  • Grats on the find, and the FS thread is already up for any hunters

Good luck on the sale my man. Don't worry about the haters, it's just jealousy. Anyone in your situation is going to do the same thing, no matter what they may say and how self righteous they may act.

  • I can honestly tell you that I wouldn't. Some things are worth more than money. Besides I would never find another NWC to replace that one.

Edit: Lol @ "haters" No hate here. No jealousy either. Just hate seeing people put greed ahead of friendships.

No hate? I see. BTW, "hater" does not imply that you hate the OP. "Hater" is a colloquialism for someone who feels the need to take someone down a peg, which is exactly what you attempted to do by telling him he was doing a "shitty" thing, albeit passive aggressively by adding in "good luck to you". I'd love to see one good finds thread on this site turn into a sale without people chiming in about what a shitty thing it is to do to flip a game for profit.
  • Let me be a little less passive agressive about my opinions. He is wrong for making a profit on a friend. Still no hate here friend. People live and learn.
  • Damn, the label is really nice on this one. This is quite the find, my man.

    Congrats, and welcome to NA!

Also, in regards to the buying price, I see no harm. I mean, from how the post reads, OP let his friend do his own research. I mean, even at $4,000, the game was really undervalued, but the friend apparently didn't have much to go off of, I guess. Both parties made a mutual exchange, so I don't see how one was made worse off.
  • They aren't too terribly close of friends apparently, and that's about it. Yeah, of course you wouldn't do that to a close friend, but as far as the OP's situation, this falls into the realm of two people agreeing on a price and it's not one's job to educate the other. I think Segartar is saying he wouldn't do this to a close or semi-close friend, which is not what OP considers his source (I assume, since it's just a person at school).

Plus the seller is way better off than if OP had not told him it was worth more, so OP actually "gave" him $1000+ more than he could have probably bought it for had he not told the guy to go research it.
  • Someone just the other day posted in here that a friend off of Facebook asked him if he wanted to buy her Nintendo games. She told him she wanted $150 for them all and Flintstones 2 was in the bundle of 8 or 9 games. It happens all the time
  • Good luck to you, my man. I don't have a problem with what you did, and don't see why someone else would, either. You made an investment to chase your dream. I hope you achieve it.

Then get a stupid loan or the funds elsewhere if you're that desperate to follow that dream.  The economy we are in right now is in the shitter and businesses are still closing quite a bit, especially those based in fluff stuff (non essentials) which video games are.  Think of you threw this to the sharks, got some money, and then had your dream come crashing down around you within a matter of months or a year, then what?  No museum piece collectors item of gaming, no business, and a nice fat debt along with a bunch of common crap games to now peddle on ebay.

Good job getting it, and at that price too.  Try it out at least, have some fun.

    Congrats on the find.

If you are expecting that type of money you might as well just put it up on ebay though, and the sooner the better if you want to try and catch the tail end of the hype.

  • Some advice, if you do sell it you and your close friends shouldn't brag around school that you sold it for 4-5x what you paid. Since you're not close friends with this kid (who apparently is known for being a troll?), things could get weird. Also if your serious about owning a video game store I suggest you take some classes. Try to get some real experience before you invest in a business. Talk to some local retro store owners and get some advice.

This my friends is a prime example of glass half empty mindset. If you don't build your dreams you're building someone elses.

  • No it's called being careful and not wasting something you likely will never own again. I didn't say don't do it, just said be careful due to the economy and get a loan. Read what you want eh? Seems like your mind is made up already.
  • Congrats man... great to see another one of these found!

Something tells me that prices might not come back down to earth on this one.
  • Down to earth? I think 15k is extremely reasonable... I understand that they used to be only 4-6k around last year but with the recent bubble nows the best time to sell and 15k is what its worth at the moment
