I'm sure they would both just be mailaways, with one being the later version. All of the rare hint books / tip sheets / guides were available by sending in the registration card as far as I know? If you send in a reg card then of course the publisher will assume you own the game.
Ive got a homemade looking SNES D&D one that the guy said he got by writing a letter directly to the company. It appears they just copied the PC hint guide and changed the cover to say SNES. So some do go into circulation by basic requests as well.

Actually some of them were mail away from newsletters. Festers quest and Milons Seceret Castle were mail aways from mail aways.
The thing is that the color one is telling you to send in the robowarrior reg. Card all the while thanking you for buying it.
The only way a piece of paper can assume that kind of information is being a giveaway at the time of purchase.
Was the Robowarrior one obtained via a reg card for sure, or something like the rear cover of the manual (as with the Faria map)? The registration card could be just that... purely for registration, with the hint book requested via some other means.
Never owned a complete RoboWarrior, just CIB. But I'm pretty sure all Jaleco games are generic for all games with different reg. Cards for different production eras. e.g. I think I think Young Indiana Jones and Sport Hockey share one.
So ya, they're just generic and just for registration.

I was actually the winner of the auction. Maybe I overpaid, frankly I was surprised I won it though. I was going to wait to post until I actually get the item, but the seller says it was shipped, and if I get backdoored I guess I save myself $250.
Hey don't let me get you down. I am way less of a serious collector than most people here. I was just shocked at how much the price went up, so I googled it and found this thread (among others, but this was the most recent). It's clearly rare and as you say only known copy right now. Which I think is awesome (and I doubt the value changes if one or two more show up anyway). Plus you paid less than the b&w copy in the OP.
Thanks for sharing your info because this is extremely interesting regardless. And congratulations!
