If he's a member here, he knows what a Stadium Events cart is and is worth. If this was a real cart, I'd have to think he wouldn't throw it up with 3 pics and no description. If there's no explanation given here, I'd be up for an instant HoS at the least.
Has anyone seen the board & guts? Can anyone verify that it's a fake?
Didn't think so.
I'm sorry, but as a business owner selling retro games, you don't see a problem with this? Throw up a Stadium Events cart on Ebay with 3 pics and no description, dressed like a proto, lumped in with a Zelda cart? Will you be bidding?
Like we all said, we'd love for this person to come in and explain himself. He signed on here today, so he's still active.
Honestly, no. He makes zero claim that it's legitimate. It just says "Stadium Events" - so in my eyes, it's just like anything else on eBay, ask questions, and if they're not answered in a proper fashion, don't bid. This opens up a whole can of worms that has been discussed on NA 3,000,000 times. Repros, fake boxes, "collector cases" - one could go on and on.
I couldn't care less about fake stuff being listed online for sale. My other hobby is collecting shoes - and if you think the fake video game market is bad, spend a few days on the sneaker forums.
Will I be bidding? No. I don't buy anything on eBay beside bubble mailers, thermal printer labels, and the occasional one-off cheap sealed game.
Are the odds EXTREMELY in favor of this not being a legitimate SE or SE proto? Yes. Does it deserve a HOS? Absolutely not. I can't believe someone would even consider this for the HOS.
I'm having trouble finding the auction, but I remember seeing an auction within the last 6 months that was very similar to this one. It was an auction for Legend of Zelda and a Stadium Events with an obviously fake label. I'm sure it's linked in one of the Fake Auction threads and was discussed at length somewhere on this site.
This auction looks remarkably similar to that one, just with a different label that might raise less questions. If I can track it down, I'll post the link, but it's probably been removed from eBay by now.

You really don't see how this person is trying to deceive people into overpaying? I'm not saying buyers shouldn't do their due dilligence, but this guy appears to be re-dressing a repro to look like a proto. False advertising, deceptive advertising, PO-ta-to Po-TA-to. I personally find it a bit disconcerting that a game-store owner couldn't fathom such practices being considered for the HoS. This is also not the same thing as the boxes/repro debate. In those cases, it's about the ethics of placing things into the market that are clearly advertised as repros or re-makes. There is no debate about someone who, say, puts a "Flintstones 2 NES box" up and then the seller gets it, and it's a clear repro. There an obvious presumption that anything not labeled repro is authentic, absent more, and this seller knows that.

YUP, I remember the exact same thing. The fake was posted 3-4 times as I recall, and removed every time. It was some time right after the Goodwill story broke. Each time it was posted with another game and no description.
It's cool, though, because he never said "authentic" in the post, so he's not really actively lying...
Looks like the seller purchased a SE repro on here a few years ago. There's a thread about it from 2011 but I can't see the photos. http://nintendoage.com/forum/mess...
It is in his feedback. $50 Shipped it cost back in 2012
The one from the old thread looks like a 3 screw. The ebay one looks like a 5 screw shell.
The fact that Jordiway has yet to chime in on the thread is also telling. Suuuuuuper weak.
Has anyone sent him the link to this thread?
I sent him a message yesterday about the thread/auction and maybe he should clear things up. And it looks like he logged on yesterday and today. Guess he's too busy playing LoZ and SE to reply.
He's logged in again today, still no responses here or to PMs. I'm gonna give him until tonight before I head over to the HoS thread and link this. I'll let others chime in and the HoS master make the final decision, but as a consumer, I would certainly like to see this kind of activity tracked.
I'm new to the group, but it seems that this is a tight bunch that is honestly looking out for the video game world. Wouldn't it obviously get scrutinized on NA?
The sad thing is, I'm sure he knows how quickly things get noticed here. Why would he think he'd be able to slip under the radar? Does he think we're all idiots? Idiot.
He's also probably going to end up losing money over this in the long run. The buyer will inevitably end up filing a complaint and winning, and then he'll get blackballed on probably the biggest NES community online/in the world (?). Not a wise decision.
Here is what I can tell you, this cart does not belong to me it belongs to a very good friend of mine. I have only seen this cart in person one time back in 2002 ish, at the time I thought it worthless I had seen many NES games with printed labels and thought yuk what a piece of crap and I had forgot about it until he brought it up a few months ago when he came back home for Christmas, and said he still had it. The reason I did not post anything on here is because 1. I do not have any real information to give and 2. I know the seller is not serious about selling it he has plenty of cash and enjoys being a dick when he has something he knows you want. He asked me to list it to see what it is worth. I told him with out opening it and taking pics I would not let the auction run its course and I would end it early. He seems to think its worth more by not opening it, like a pack of baseball cards. The only thing I really know is that he got this at a toy show (he collects John Deere toys). I have known this guy since I was 11 he was my next door neighbor and he wont even let me see the inside of this thing he says "if you wanna see you gotta pay nothings free hahaha" I would like to know just as much as everyone else. I guess the best I can hope for is to come across a 1 of a kind John Deere toy tractor from the early 1900's then I might have a chance of getting a look. My theory is that it is a real S.E. cart missing its label.
I have a good job and I make plenty of money I'm not on here or ebay to scam anybody check my feedback it speaks for itself I have one negative and I know that guy opened the box took the items and filed a claim got the insurance money and still left negative feedback that's ebay for you. I'm here because I enjoy collecting games. I have bought, sold and traded stuff on here, and I have met some pretty cool people on here and a few assholes. Yes I do own quite a few repros I personally do not own a S.E. repro I have bought a few to give out as gag gifts. I'm not into collecting games because of its worth if I had a S.E. or Flintstones I would sell them to buy some cooler games because those games suck. The repros I collect are of cool unreleased games like Bio Force Ape. And yes I have been ignoring my messages I don't usually check them unless I have made a transaction.

Probably a scam
No description, 3 pictures, screams scam.
If he's a member here, he knows what it is. Probably a repro cart with a blank label because he couldn't find someone to make a better one.

Would love to hear the story. I know nothing about protos but it would be cool if this was a SE proto or something.
Would be the find of the year if it was a prototype.
Might be possible that it's just a normal Stadium Events, but missing the actual label.
I PMed him some questions.
I'd like to hear the backstory to this as well. Seems like this cart has an interesting tale to tell.
Hall of Shame worthy indeed.
Didn't think so.

Lying through omission is clear on display here. The listing is intentionally misleading in hopes that an uniformed buyer overpays for garbage.

Yup.
I did when I PMed him.
Forgot to add the link to my ebay email though.
Edit...According to the ebay listing, it looks like multiple people have emailed him. "16 Inquiries."
