Louisville Arcade Expo 2014 Find

So I had a blast this year at the arcade expo and I didn't go alone this year. My friend Jeff went with me this year and he told me that he didn't think he was going to enjoy it very much but he told me he had a blast with all these old retro games and he said he would love to go next year. I also met two nintendo age member. I never met anyone from this site in person before. Tanookie and Tall Guy it was nice chatting with you guys. Other then that some vendors remember me from last year and hook me up with some stuff. One vendor actually left his boof to find me telling me I got more stuff for sale. I don't know if I got good deals or not but I'm happy to have these games in my collection now.

I don't recall how much I spent this year and how much I paid each item but I try my best to remember.

Atari Find

I spent alot on Atari most of these games I paid 2 or 4 each. Except for Taz which I spent on 9$ and Tempest which is sadly is only box and manual for 5$ box. The guy who sold it to me is keeping the cart in his collection.

  • Wow I guess some stuff made it out after I left as I would have taken that Toki game and that gamepad youre asking about and I didnt see the Indy title either so good job on those. It feels much like a Famicom controller, but its unique and not for the turbo, but the volume control on it and audio plug hanging off it as it allows for fake stereo sound outo f the controllers audio jack with some headphones. They retail online for like 10-15 on ebay.
  • IMHO that NES controller, the Joycard Sansui SSS, is the best.
  • You had a good time and that's what's important, imo.

I have to go to one of these convention thingies at some point methinks.
  • He's the Videogame Hunter!!! Nice work Tyler!
  • The vendors there really aren't good for buying games so much as the show is only 4 years old and hasn't grown much at least between last year and this one I've went to. You got Game King from the Lexington area who is a con man of sorts on pricing which anyone here would laugh off who prays on new people but he also has some nice overseas toys and plushies priced ok enough. The other main vendor is this pair of guys from Cincinnati who bring their doubles and junk (they're colletors) to get rid of them mainly. The heart of the show is making your money back on that entrance fee kicking a lot of hours on pinball and old arcade games along with trying out some of the unique old console/computer stuff from here or other regions, some of the competitions, music, and randomness. I was there a little over four hours, mostly did pinball and some arcade games and dabbled on a few other things. I did get a plush Tanooki and a plastic Koopa toy along with a couple of cheap GBA games, one was sealed and isn't now.

Yea the Game King guy was back and again some of his games were way over price. Except for couple like  Battletoads in Battlemanic about were 5 to 8 dollars over price, which I didn't mind too much because I actually been looking for that game and Art of Fighter was only 6$ so it wasn't too bad.

All my money went to those other 2 vendors. They were pretty much selling games what they were going for. Except for Mr. Do Castle currently on eBay the buy it now price are 85 to 100. The guy sold me the game with the manual for 70$. Now I'm thinking about it. One of them wanted a picture with me because I had a Cheetahmen shirt on and he had an AVGN shirt on. I should have told him to send me the picture.

Other than that I agree with you Tanooki. If you’re planning to play hours of games then you will get your money worth at the door.

Yep.  Says his $130 loose copy of Conker's Bad Fur Day =)  I had planned on setting up out there this year but have been busy with our new baby.  Am def going to set up next year though.   Was fun.  Was hard to get on some of the games though due to the amount of people that were there.  Unless you wanted to play Jungle King, then you had no wait.

Yea I saw that Conker's Bad Fur day. I was actually at Book N Music on Preston HWY today and they were selling theirs for 70$. I don't know if that a good deal or not sense I don’t care for N64 that much, but I just thought I let you know.

Cool thanks.  Yeah thats about average.   They paid a buck or so for it probably.  Was in there once and guy had some games he brought in to sell.  They offer 25 cents per NES, 50 cents on SNES.
  • It was a decent show. Bought a couple arcade games. Played tons of pinball. Watched my pals play in the tournaments. I do hope the vendor section grows. I was thinking of setting up also, but I wanted to enjoy the expo. Hard to do sitting behind a table all day.

I went when they opened on Friday through 6 or so, and there wasn't a line to play issue in most cases so I just hopped around table to table which was nice.  If you do set up there next year I'd buy, as I Know you're fairly pricing things and it's also not like the other dude there, shoveling off doubles and filler.

It's not good or bad really, average considering what the game goes for.  Still it's slimy for them to do be doing that the last few months or so as they used to price stuff like 10-20% under ebay to get people in, and now they're taking the 'full price despite no fees' luxury of buying local tax.  I walk away from that shit pretty much every single time as it bugs me.  The Half Price Books on Hurstborne as of the 9th still had a copy (great shape) of the Conker strategy guide from Nintendo (not the lame 3rd party copy.)  I'd have grabbed it as it was $10 but I already have one.

I agree with krank, the vendor area really needs to grow.  It was a little larger this year but it was not gaming junk added but comic-con stuff and this big chick selling her custom made non-gaming jewelry and another dude with perler art.  Otherwise it was all the same people from the year before.  Next year I'll bring some green again, but I'll go expecting nothing but burning myself out on pinball.  I love that they had Addams Family this year and Space Shuttle was back, two of my favs and sadly I hadn't touched AF since I worked at Midway as they had it in one of the break rooms.  I wish they'd add that to that Pinball Arcade game.
  • +1 for Addams Family Pinball. Love the game. They had 2 set up, but were always packed.
  • 20014? Are you from the future
  • damnit this is the 2nd year in a row that I totally forgot about this thing and forgot to go. Last time I did go there weren't a whole lot of vendors anyway, and the day of the expo I was hunting around Cincinnati and caught the local game stores slipping on a TON of stuff so I probably did better there anyway. Most of the vendors that would be there I refuse to buy from anyway....we all know Game King is a king-sized scammer (he sells reproduction games for 100s of dollars in his store and says they are rare legit NES carts), and that dude with the kinda buzzed hair (he always wears an AVGN shirt at other shows, so I am guessing he might be the same guy described at this show) goes around and buys up anything and everything before a show starts just to resell it for a higher price at his own table, which is forbidden at most any other convention but he manages to get away with it every year. One time I had already agreed to a price for a box of common SNES games I needed and as I am pulling the money out of my wallet he comes up behind me and says "I'll pay you double" and literally stole them right from me
  • My in laws had to pick that weekend to come down for a visit... Ugh! It killed me knowing the expo was going on 10 minutes away. Real bummer, but there's always next year...
