Vacation Finds

While on vacation back tohometown, I noticed a new thrift store had opened up and I figured I'd stop by just to see what it had.  Turns out, the owner has a large bookshelf stocked full of games from Atari on up, with each system having its own shelf.  If I had the cash and time, I would have bought out half of his stock!  But, for now, I managed to pick up the following for $30:

Super Star Wars

Super Empire Strikes Back

Super Return of the Jedi

U.N. Squadron

Rampart

Aladdin

Plus Strider and Thunder Force III, both CIB, for the Genesis.

I'm sad to say that I had to pass up a Rocket Knight Adventures CIB for $14, but I had already expended my funds when it was offered to me.  That was heartbreaking.

After we spoke for a bit, the owner invited me to send him a list of games to look out for so that he can sell them to me directly, as he has begun putting his more collectable games on eBay rather than on the shelves.  All in all, I'd say it was a good trip.

  • Nice finds! Great price for the lot
  • Nice finds. Drives me crazy how a lot of store owners will list more expensive titles on Ebay without even trying to sell in their store first. I had a store around me that got the star fox competition cart and advertised it on craigslist but decided to just sell on ebay assuming a customer wouldn't understand the price, which was $300 or $350. I can't remember exactly. Another I saw had listed bonks for the nes on ebay so I went and asked why they never had it out anytime I dropped in and they assumed ebay was the only way to sell a game like that. I didn't need it but I knew several that would have bought the game.
  • That's pretty much the line I got:  "Why try to sell it around here in this small town, when I can get $x easy from Ebay faster?"  The good thing, though, was that he actually let me look through his Ebay box to see if there was anything that hadn't yet been bid on that he would sell me cheaper since he wouldn't have to worry about shipping.  I think maybe that's the key:  Asking the people at these stores to keep you in mind when they get something in, and leaving them a call-back number.  I actually wish I had taken a photo or two at this place so that people on the forum could see if he had anything they needed.
