Surgery Update

Keep us in your prayers.

As far as surgeries go this one (cervical disc removal) is pretty straightforward and has a high success rate.  But anytime you get general anasthesia or get opened up it is a cause for concern.

Thanks again for all of the previous well wishing.  The surgeon is very optimistic about moving forward with this one.

I'll update with results on Thursday when we get home!

  • Well, we're out of the hospital and she's doing well!
  • That's wonderful. Thanks for the update Nathan, best wishes for a speedy recovery.
  • Congrats man. Glad to hear everything went well for you guys.
  • Thanks. Surgery only took 45 minutes, but we spent a full day in the hospital for observation. We got to stay in the "VIP room" (no, it didn't have private lap dances), so there was a fold out bed for guests. But sleeping in a hospital sucks because they wake up the patient every 2 hours or so for medications, etc.

Evidently, the nerve cluster that was being pressed on by the ruptured disc was obviously not in the right place. Once the surgeon removed the disc, the nerve cluster jumped right back into place. They put in some donor bone, and tied it all together with a titanium screw plate. My wife's posture improved immediately (the ruptured disc forced her head forward and she couldn't stand completely straight). Within a couple of months the feeling in her hand should return, and she should get her strength back completely.
  • Glad to hear it went well. Good luck on the recovery.
