Looking for beta testers for Larry!

We're happy to announce that we're done putting Larry together.  The game is fully playable and we've knocked out all the bugs we can find on our own.  The problem is that we know the game too well and we play the game the same way every time!  So we're looking to bring a few people on (5 or so, if you're good!) to put the game through its paces and break stuff.

I'm going to be attaching an application for you to fill out, if you're interested.  Benihana has taken the reins as lead tester, and he and I will be going through the applications and picking out who we feel the best applicants are.

I know some of you probably think that this is a bit much to just bring on some beta testers, but after releasing a few games in the past, it seems like everyone in the world wants to offer you their services, but no one actually wants to commit after they get in.

So, unless you can seriously dedicate 5-10 hours a week to Larry, we'd ask that you wait to beta test someone else's game.

The instructions on what to do with the application are in the application.  It's your first test to see if you can follow instructions.

Love ya, baby!

Not having a PowerPak isn't an immediate rejection.   You will need an emulator though!  Haha.

  • I would love to apply, but I have too much on plate at the moment to dedicate the time. I am pretty excited to hear the news! Congrats on getting to this stage.
  • This means..... A RELEASE IS COMING!!!! :0
  • I'll throw my hat in the ring

    In the future...yes.
  • What would your requirements be for playing this game other than 5-10hours? A good bit of the time I had in the game industry was doing testing both for Midway and a little freelance before, also for emulators in the 90s too so I could help out if it fits my free time.

I was familiar with the game in the 90s with the VGA release but I haven't seen it in like 15 years.

    Not sure what you're asking.

  • I was curious how you were handling bug submission or if you had some kind of plan of attack for the game that hasn't been done already since you wanted fresh eyes.

There will be instructions for the BETA testers once we select them all..right now we are just looking for applications from interested parties.

  • Awesome. I don't have time to test, but will be very much first in line when you release the final version!
  • Got my application in. Plans to test with FCEUX, BizHawk, and "Real Hardware
  • As much as I want to, I think I will pass on testing this, since I'm still testing AFB. Maybe I can join late?

If you can remember, send me a message when you're done with AFB if you're still interested!  I'll see where we're at at that time.

  • If you miss some people i may have 3hour a week to test

So i maybe able to help a bit
  • Nice. Never thought of an application.
  • I put in an application as well. Because why not.
  • Would love to beta test this. I probably don't have the credentials tho. But I did play the first five Larry's quite a lot. (Except for the "Missing Floppies" of course.)

Can't wait for the finished product. Loved "Study Hall" by the way.
  • Sent. There are definitely much more qualified people ahead of me but you've gotta start somewhere!

The only credentials you need is time, buddy.  Submit an application if you have any free time.

  • Applied! Put me in Coach!
  • the only credentials you really need are experience beta testing a game into submission. humping it into the ground again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and... wait for it... again.

    Applied.
  • I'll gladly play 5-10 hrs a week if you put this bad boy on a physical cart. Don't have an emulator or powerpak sadly.

Emulators are easy to find, download, and use.

    Do you need some suggestions?

I was the same way a few years ago. Once you see how fast changes get made (daily if not hourly) it is not worth the time/money to put on a cart and mail it out each time a change is made.

Emulators are nice for BETA testers because you can play it, report your findings and download the new ROM with fixes immediatly. Really speeds up the process.

  • And with me making the game, every time I fix a bug, I create five more!
