The Difference Between Nintendo And 3rd Party SNES Controllers

What's the difference between 3rd party and official Nintendo SNES controllers? Without getting to bogged down with technical details, how do consoles like the SupaBoy know if I'm using a 3rd party controller in the player one slot, and can play games without plugging it into a TV? Just wondering.

  • Controllers are so simple, basically only construction differs. 3rd or 1st, doesn't really change except the Carry pin they attach to the 4021/PSSR chip.

Superboy knows when it's plugged in because when it completes the circuit, it has a sensor to know the controller in the slot is using power obviously, doesn't matter what brand, it's not magic.

And it can play games because it has it's own screen maybe? It might, for some reason, actually display the game on that screen. Or maybe that's just too technological. lol.

Well there goes my understanding of how video games work!

  • Duh... everyone knows the Force makes video games work, not magic.
