Secret Scout White Version? Third Color Variation?

It happens that i recently got a CIB very light gray (almost white) Secret Scout game and i would like to know if its a third color variation, other than the blue and black ones, or if it is just a discolored blue one? Anyone knows? I can post pictures, but the color is very diferent from a discolored blue... its realy a very light gray one, or almost white. Thanks in advance.

Edited: Heres is a picture... notice that it is almost white... completely different from the blue version and yes, its 100% original from Color Dreams and comes to me in CIB condition. How much its worth? Does someone know the price too?

  • I would look very closely to make sure it isn't pained. I had one once that was painted this same greyish color and it was done very well. To the point I almost didn't notice it was painted. If it isn't painted, then I have no idea..
  • It isnt painted... the interior is the same color... i really do think its a third color variation. If it is, than NA must update the cartridges color chat.
  • Color Dreams carts are known for having discoloration issues. I've seen ones that look like that and some that are almost green or brown lol. They were only manufactured blue or black though. Got any pics of the back of the cart?

It's not a variant, that's just how the carts look... the only variant part would be on the back label.
  • Still looks like a mint condition light blue to me. Not exposed to the elements.
  • Unfortunately im without any cam right now but i will post the pics taken by the seller who send me. I will provide more pics once i got a nice cam. My cell phone is still a motorola v3, sry. But i would like to know how much it is worth anyway. Thanks in advance.

  • WOW! Now the things are getting interesting! I got in touch with the people from www.wisdomtreegames.com and asked about this light gray cartridges... the response was amazing! There was indeed a very few and limited light gray (almost white) and red one, used for prototipes that in the end was shipped to the consumers. The head of Wisdom Tree answer my mail and tould me that personaly... so... its better you update your chats guys! Cause this colors was indeed manufactered in very limited editions for prototypes! I will post some screens from the email that i received from Brenda Huff, head of WT, here.

Yeah I've seen the gray ones and the white prototype ones, however never a red one.  Good call! Please share Last time I talked to Brenda was in 2007, heh.

  • Here are the printscreen from the email ive got from WT.

  • I believe the prototypes she's referring to are these:

Unless there's more info out there, one can only assume that yours is just a blue cart (though it is slightly harder to find than black).  Plus it doesn't help that the pics are kinda low-res and can affect the lighting of the cart.
  • NESMASTER... ive send the pictures to the head of Wisdom Tree, that worked on Color Dreams on that time and she remember my copy by being a proto copy, not those one you posted. You got those pictures from where? When i tell you that my cart arent blue and nowhere near a descolored blue, im telling the truth. All the Secret Scout games ive researched into was blue or black... ive saw some little brow (like moist i dont know) blue like dirty and a very little discolored ones, but nowhere near from a almost white one like mine. Mine is more like a very light gray. Its not a discolored blue for sure and now, after the answer that ive got, im sure about it. Plastic dont turn from blue to white even after 25 years or ive never saw a case like this. Maybe if you point me to some other discolored one, i can believe. I only ask about this on the beggining just to have sure cause at that time i dont had the answer from WT. Anyway, im just trying to correctly identify my cart and i do think up till now, the WT answer are far the most accurate and reliable.
  • And by the way... that proto carcass that you posted are indeed proto carcass, but it dosnt mean that Color Dreams worked with this kind of protectors for their chips. It makes more sense if they had their own, manufactured on the same mold, maybe by the same manufacturer, plastic carcass. She even told about the red ones too, dont forget about that.

  • How do you know that they are indeed discolored and wasnt manufactured in this color? Like ive told you, ive never saw a blue one in the process of becoming white... like a almost white one, but that you still can tell that it is blue.
  • I think you was right NESMASTER. Brenda reply me again telling me that mine wasnt a prototype, cause their prototype was gray and not so white like mine. Im researching a little further to now about variants but it looks like you are right indeed.
  • By the way... just saw that you use Color Dream as your name... are you related to then in any form? And thanks for the elucidation here.
  • Very clearly a blue cart.
  • New answer from Branda from Wisdom Tree:

    "Hello,

I do not know for sure where they came from, but I remember them using the white for prototype games and testing versions. Towards the end, they manufactured games in whatever color they had. The Wisdom Tree games were in black after the first run of Bible Adventures. They may have had a few hundred white/grey ones.

    Brenda Huff"

So they indeed produced protos on white cases but i dont think that its this case (altough it still have a chance). But, i do compare some discolored ones just to notice that they are a harder gray than mine. Mine is almost white (if not entirely white) and maybe mine was from the end of the CT lifespam, like Brenda imply. She remember they beggan to produce their games in various colors in the end. I will imply other staff members from CT and inform you guys. But Branda told that they manufacture carts in many colors... its a point that NA should investigate too to update their charts ( or not ). For me, i just want to know the ID of my game.
  • Again that looks like a mint condition blue cart. They are very light blue starting out and when they havent seen the light of day. Yours doesnt look white. It looks like light baby blue. I dont think you have ever had a mint color dreams cart before because thats what it clearly is

im pretty sure someone who even worked at color dreams would not really care about the games that much. Im sure they dont really remember the details as good as they think they do. Also I dont think you supplied them really any info really. They just responded like, "oh yeah i remember working on that game. Maybe there were some red ones too."  No one is going to remember a color of something that they worked on over 20 years ago. Only reason people care now is people collect it.

also the pictures you posted. You can clearly see the cart is simliar in color to the color dreams blue sleeve and isnt even close to the styrofoam white.

it sounds like you are trying to convince everyone that it is something its not to try and cash in somehow.
  • that is a blue cart

No no, im not trying to convince anyone, im just arguing to get more answers, thats how it works. I dont even put it for sale nor i think i will... im just wanting to know the procedence, the pedigree, without any doubts and for that, i must listen to many arguments and push some counter arguments too, to know if the argument is realy strong. Im even trying to get in touch with ex members from CD to get a better picture, altough i do think the chances of it being a blue version is far superior. But i want to have 100% sure about it, thats all. Again, im not trying to over value this game. Im not a scammer, rest assured.

Aside from that, how much you guys think this cib blue version is worth? Is mint = blue? The comom CD blue or other blue variant? (language problems here, sry)

  • mint condition color dreams blue cart is what you have.

    the cart is worth 220-250.

CIB worth Id guess 350-400. Havent looked at it in awhile. Its a very hard box and manual to find
  • The cart is a blue one, easy to see from the pics.

Regarding the gray prototype cart pic that was posted earlier, yes that is a prototype, and legit.

    Nothing more to really say.
  • yep it a blue cart i have one that has only seen the light of day just a few times in the 10+ years i had it)

i also have a pristine mint manual to go with it as well. mine was cib when i originaly bought it but i sold the box a few years

back as im into cart / manuals only.
  • So, this descoloration problem is due to the time the cartridge stays inside the box, without getting some light? Or the contrary? Thanks in advance.
  • Definitely a blue cart
  • Part of me wants to chime in with "It looks white to me," but I don't have the heart.

It took less than a second to identify the original cart as blue.
  • Why did you delete the picture?

Here it is for archival reasons and to avoid confusion:

Again, just a blue cart, nothing out of the ordinary.
  • All I see is blue.
  • Come on guys, he's obviously not listening to anything anyone tells him, so given that fact:

DUDE that's gotta be so rare, you should throw it up on Ebay with a 10 MILLION DOLLAR BUY IT NOW! OMG

    /ends being a dick!

Seriously though, that's definitely the regular blue copy....
