Yoshi and Baby Mario Statue

Hey folks!

I was lucky enough to come into TWO Yoshi and Baby Mario statues. I have both original boxes but only one of the letters that came along with it from Nintendo. So I need a few pieces of information:

<a href="http://imgur.com/yJwgwK5"><img src="http://i.imgur.com/yJwgwK5.jpg" title="Hosted by imgur.com"/></a>

1: how many of them were actually made and where were they sold/given away? I've heard something as low as 150. and I've heard both that they were sold out of the New York Nintendo Store and given away at a GameStop manager conference.

2: What is a complete one worth? A few days after the manager conference, one of our local managers sold one (WAY against Nintendo's wishes) online for two grand. I saw one sell about 4 years ago on Ebay for 1200. I just don't know where they're sitting now.

3: One of the two I got was damaged. I actually went to the trouble of getting a museum-quality repair and restoration on it. (I wanted it done right) I know that would be worth less than the original, of course, but what's everyone's best guess on that one?

  • I purchased mine online from a collector for $400. They seem to go in that range loose but with the box I'd imagine tacking on an extra hundred or two. I'm actually interested in what you had done to your broken one since mine arrived with a lot of damage that I need to repair.

Do another search and one sold for $275

I'd be interested if you're deciding to part with one (damaged one if anything).

If you can take some pictures of the damaged item and where it was damaged, I'll give ya a rough estimate.

They don't tend to go for much, between 2-300

  • Don't go for much? $200-$300 seems like a pretty good amount of money for a statue.
  • Welcome to the world of statues!

$200-300 is actually not that terrible compared to what other companies charge for statues. For example, pop culture shock often charges $400-500 for a 1:4 Mortal Kombat statue.

It's a crazy hobby I limit my statues to Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and Mario. That's it. Horror too like Freddy Jason Myers etc.
  • As far as I know this was available only as a contest prize for gamestop employees, cause my wife entered the contest when she worked for the company back in the day. As far as how many were made i'm not sure, but i'm guessing not a lot. Price for a boxed one that's not broken at all would probably be $300 to $400 IMO. If you ever want to sell just the letter, i'm interested as mine didn't come with it.
