NES Monster In My Pocket Sealed

According to Pricecharting, there have been no completed sealed auctions on this game since 2013. There were only two completed auctions in 2013; one for $480 and one for $55. That's quite a price disparity! How do you typically put a value on sealed games that sell so infrequently?

  • I think I'm getting sealed stuff down to a science now...from what I've seen you can reasonably go by this.

Complete CIB Price x 2.5 = Average Condition Sealed Game

Complete CIB Price x 3 = Average Condition Semi-Rare Game

Complete CIB Price x 10 = Average Condition Hangtab Sealed Game

Complete CIB Price x 25 = Average Condtion Oval Circle Seal of Quality Black Box Game

Complete CIB Price x 33 = Average Condition Sealed Circle Seal of Quality Black Box Game

Complete CIB Price x 66 = Average Condition Sticker Sealed Black Box Game

    Obviously there's exceptions to everything.
  • Thanks. It is going to be hard not to open this game to get the limited edition monster out of it. I was a big fan of the figures growing up and still have a complete series one collection at my parents house somewhere.
  • Joseph, this calculation method is awesome! I've noticed some of your posts include information that requires a lot of research. I enjoy it and I hope you will stick around the forum even if you mentioned in another thread that you feel like throwing the towel on collecting.
  • I think k3vbot just sold a copy on here recently, so you might check with him.
  • Well the figure goes for around $100-$150 by itself, and it is in the sealed game. So I assume sealed is at least $250-$400 depending on condition.

Rules of thumb are okay in the hobby (like box = cart value, manual = half of cart value on NES stuff) but the estimation on sealed is going to be wrong more than it is right. Sealed prices are influenced by condition much more than anything else in the hobby. There's not a big market for "average condition" anything sealed, the market is at Near Mint and Mint.
  • Is it because one auction had the figurine?

Sealed they should both have it.
  • The $55 was a quick Buy It Now, it is useless as a real data point.

It's just a generalization. I agree there'll be a LOT of oddities in that guess, and that only means I have more room for improvement.

I like to consider the "average" condition of sealed stuff meaning "a corner poke", or "a stress line", stickers covering artwork, etc. Mint and Poor are really big price changers and I usually scrap that data...I can probably stop scrapping that data though and apply it to a mint cib to a mint sealed, poor cib to a poor sealed, average cib to an average sealed.
