Help Modding my Famicom to NES adapter for Famicom Sound Chip
Hi all, I recently received a repro Gimmick from a trade and have modded my NES with the proper resistor for the added sound, it's awesome! I'm now interested in importing Castlevania 3 and hear that I have to mod my Famicom to NES adapter in order for the sound to properly work.
Here's a link I've found for modding the official Famicom to NES adapter found in Gyromite

but I have a 3rd party adapter. Here are pics of my adapter's board.

Can anyone look at these pics and tell what pin I have to solder to what pin in order to have the extra sound chip to work? Thanks!

There's no reason that 3rd party converter won't work.

Congrats on the successful mod, Castlevania III FC does sound awesome. You should have scraped off some of the green coating above NES pin 54 and solder the wire to that however, soldering closer to the pin itself means it will obstruct connectivity in the NES console.
Thanks, that sound is Amazing! I actually did scrape quite a bit of the green coating off where its mainly soldered (the spot is covered up by the soldered wire itself in the pic.) You are right though it Is a bit too far on the pin by the looks of it for sure. I was incredibly paranoid after I was done that the soldered wire would hit/bend the pins in my NES. I tried it out with a spare loose 72 pin set , luckily it didn't connect with the pins. I was going resolder it and bring the wire up further but it looks like I'm in the clear. Next time I mod one I'm definently going to scrape all of the coating off adn move the solder job as far up as possible, I was just a little too cautious in thinking I shouldn't go crazy on scaping all the green coating off fo some reason. Thanks for your info on the boards earlier, totally appreciated, now I just need to hunt down the other Famicom games with the different sound chips....minus Gimmick!, that guy is out of my league!
Do you know if anyone produces converter shells like these for adapeters found in Gyromite? I think I at least want to make a spare, and maybe even make a few with custom 3D printed cases if nobody makes any already.
