Need suggestions fixing a Super NES game

So I just picked this game up but I can't seem to get it to work. I've tried multiple games on the console and they all work but this one doesn't seem to boot up. It will only display a black screen.

I've cleaned the contacts with brasso, eraser and alcohol. Anything else I can try to make this bad boy boot up let me know.

  • check continuity from all the edge pins

    replace the ram chip

move the mask rom to a donor board
  • Anything else that doesn't involve me taking anything apart. Some sort of cleaning technique that I haven't tried.
  • Hard to find a donor cart for these, as most of the games on them are spendy ones. Also hope you are good at SMD soldering
  • The one thing I didn't try...another SNES console

Just tried it on my Like New SNES and it started up right away. Thanks for the help guys. Thank god I didn't need to desolder anything. I really suck at desoldering.

    This can be locked!
  • Ill buy that broken snes if you wanna sell

    Just saw this now

It's actually not broken. It plays every game I put to the test but this Kirby. It's my modded SNES to play PAL games so I'll have to hold onto it.

No worries man. Did you try replacing the ram chip on Kirby? Its hard to tell not zoomed in to see the stamp but I'm pretty sure it uses the same chips that are in a Super Game Boy. Transplant gogo.
  • Ahh a modded console, I know Super Mario RPG had lots of copy protections, I would think other SA1 games would also.

    How is the console modded?

It had someone mod the console to switch between Pal and NTSC.

  • OK now I see the console is nodded and that's why Kirby won't play. Is it hard nodded or did you install a switch to turn to region lock on and off? If not I'd just do that, doesn't require much effort and it will enable you to play those other games.
  • I know kirby wont work if the lockout chip is disabled, that might be why the game refuses to boot.

Does it have two switches, one for 50/60hz and one for pal/ntsc.

This is what I was referring to as well. Just wire up a switch for the lockout chip.
  • A supercic chip is the way to go,I installed one in my pal snes and it plays everything I throw at it.
