Buzzing sound with headset in Garry's Mod
I'm getting a high pitched buzzing sound in my headset when I play Garry's Mod. This doesn't happen when I play other games or when I'm listening to music/not listening to anything. Just for Gmod.
A month ago the issues started but it only happened when I was in the server menu's or if I alt tabbed out. Now it happens as soon as I start up the game on the main screen. Also happens when I'm on a server (like on Gmod Tower).
I have Turtle Beach PX22 and I'm using one of the front USB ports and the front headphone port. Now I have read how some front headphone ports don't have shielding which can cause a buzzing sound...wouldn't I always hear the buzzing sound?
Just in case this was the issue I tried to use the back headphone port...and I can't hear anything when I use it. It doesn't work for some reason...
So I'm at a loss as to why only Gmod does this and why it's doing it in the first place! Also wondering why I can't use my back port...but I'm more worried about how to fix this front port...if there is an issue with it.

Oh that is a BAD idea...I've had to do it before and it takes forever to do it..I would do it if I knew it would fix it right off the bat. But if it's just a guess that it will fix it I'd rather not risk all that time wasted lol. I have a lot of addons and such...
I used to have a pair of Turtle Beach x11 and they did the exact same thing you described. I ultimately bought a new headset.
It more than likely has to do with the frequency response range of the drivers in the headset and a tone the game is making.

Um...k? How do I fix it without buying another headset? I just got these, plus these are the only ones that fit my head...so I really don't want to get another headset.

You can't really fix headphones. The way they are manufacturered prevents them being serviced.
Do a warranty exchange on them if they are new.
Or, go google for a solution like I just did.
Found this on steam forums.

Holy crap i fixed it,
this was driving me crazy for ages and was partly due to the microphone.
All you have to do is force disable all the recording devices in your sound options in windows.
My line in altho nothing was plugged in, was causing this feedback.
My mic was also causing a layer of this as well, when i rubbed my finger over it i could hear it. so i force disabled that as well.
This will help a couple of you guys, im in an office with heaps of computers and eletronics and even 20 meters away from my transmitter there is no feedback from anything. These headphones really do rock when they are setup correctly.

Why would it just start doing it...and in only one game though if something was wrong with them?
Also I tried that "fix" my mic isn't the problem. It's gmod for some reason...
Last ditch attempt...I'll verify my game catche before reinstalling the damned thing...what a bother.

Maybe it's because we're on the internet but it seems to be you're being pretty argumentative. Especially considering this is free pc advice on a Nintendo forum.

Trust me if I was trying to argue, you'd know. I was just wondering why gmod started doing this all of a sudden. It doesn't seem like the problem is my headset, since if it was, it would be doing it all the time right?
And reinstalling gmod is a bother, I have a lot of addons, models, textures, maps so on and so forth. I've done it before and it was like ripping my hair out.
Also yeah it's a Nintendo forum but see the subforums called Gamer's Gauntlet and Everything Else? Those arn't focused on Nintendo, so moot point.
I'm guess the reason why this only does this in Gmod is that maybe either there's something in Gmod (let's say a random sound driver specifically used for Gmod) that's causing a buzzing noise when using that particular headset.
Also, have you tried using a different headset? I know you'd probably rather use the Turtle Beach PX22s, but this is to rule everything out by making sure it's no compatibility problem.
Would probably get limited feedback on these forums. Just a suggestion. I also agree that it's probably not the headset if it only happens with that one game/app. G'luck to ya.
@Boosted52405: I tried every google combo I could think of and nothing helped. Trust me I tried everything I could find before I turned to this site.
I went into ESO today and after a while I started hearing a slight buzzing sound (nothing as loud as Gmod mind you, but enough to catch my attention). So now I think it's the damned headset Which sucks since idk if I can return them...I bought them from Best Buy a few months ago...does Turtle Beach do returns on broken headsets? I don't think I have a warranty still for Best Buy...ugh. These bastards wern't exactly cheap god damn it!
