Flea markets

I was looking into the affordable way to sell my stuff with limited time wasted. I don't feel the end result of selling on feebay would be best since so much time goes into each listing and when you have over 2000 spares that time ads up.
The flea market here is about 35$ a Sunday with hydro and storage options. Which adds up to almost a premium store on ebay with 2500 listings.

Also wat to charge is a new dilemma with the falling cad dollar at 88 cents. Which is why ide like to know what others do in this case.

  • The only issue I have found is people want everything for nothing. Just like if you have a garage sale, you can have killer items and everyone wants them for a dollar. I thought the flea would be a good way to get rid of all my extra video game stuff....as well as vintage toys and board games. But I left with a lot of what I brought and the stuff I did sell I had to give away. Not to say that there arent some collectors there who know what things are, but even they want a steal and are looking for sellers who dont know what they have. Just my 2 cents.

I completely agree with this post. I'm not going to a flea market looking to pay eBay prices for anything. I'm looking for good-great deals on stuff. I think that would be your biggest struggle.

You're better off getting a table/booth at a nearby gaming convention instead.   Even setting up at a comics convention would yield better results than a flea market.

  • I had a yard sale with only video games twice in the past 3 months. Advertised well on CL and FB pages, had alot of good stuff, consoles, and $5 games.

I made 10x as much as I made at a flea market the week before, without leaving my front yard.
  • The most successful sellers that I visit at the flea market charge a firm %50-60 off of eBay prices. They don't haggle on popular stuff as much as w obscure titles. They're there at 4am every weekend scouring the flea market before most buyers get there and they're usually cut throat w the competition. All but 1 do really well and typically pull in around $200-500 every Sunday, sometimes more if they have a pile of Pokemon titles. Its a side job and to get out what you want you're gna have to work at it.
  • if you put the time into it you can do well at a flea market. I have been at the local one for about 2 years now, you will always get people who want something for nothing but once people get to know you as a regular vender they will pay more. I don't put games on ebay, no matter the value they go to the flea market, my customers love this and come back often.
  • I would say it all boils down to how motivated the seller is to simply get rid of them. If you're selling at a flea market just sitting around why not use that time to list your stuff on eBay.

What I see at flea markets is the same old worthless stuff that every other Mary & Joe also have with the same prices. They just sit there week after month.

Get rid of them once and for all and you won't have to complain about any fees ever again.

Buyers don't want to waste their time either.
  • I figured most would want it cheap as dirt but i expect some of that. But if i was to do this i would be commited to being there every sunday just like a second job.

I was also thinking comic cons but the 700$ price tag to get in for a super tiny booth for 2-3 days seems like a major risk to me since i have never went to a comic con in my life and i dont know if sellers there jack up the prices to compensate for the vender fees, i was wondering if its fround upon or illegal to sell from the parking lot at a comic con or something like that.

My brother did go and said eerything is expensive but the ppl spend $$$$ on useless expensive stuff at comic cons. Like if i did comic con ide want to price things so its just all gone but not so low that one person buys everything if u get what i mean.
  • also 90% of my retro stuff is n64 and CIB so thats something most ppl never see, plus boxes and manuals so it will be very niche but ide be the only one in the area with loose boxes and manuals without resorting to ebay.
  • If you can wait for a bit, the Waterloo video game swap runs twice a year in Waterloo (of course) and is only $5 to get a vendor table for the day. I went to the last couple swaps and they were huge. The last one had 100 vendors and thousands of customers. I would think you would do very well there, especially if you charge under Ebay prices.
  • There is a video game swap meet coming up on Nov 2 in Cambridge. You could also sell on NA where there are no fees and you would only have to take pix of pricy item or upon request. Or you could sell everything off at once to Cash4Games. There is also another swap coming up in the spring.

So is this your collection you plan on selling then.

I tried to attend that this year but i was unable to find a vehicle with enough space fast enough, i litterally found out the date 2-3 days before it happened. Which frustrated me cause i know how awesome it is. Ottawa needs a giant swap like this.

  • I know a guy looking to finish his CIB N64 collection

  • I still think eBay is the best way to buy/sell. You really can't top the exposure compared to yard sales, flea markets etc. If you're dying to get your stuff gone start your prices as low as you can really stand and let people bid on them.

  • Based on my shopping experience, you probably wouldn't want your "high-end" and "collectible" stuff there. Most people, including myself, go to flea markets for a bargain. They probably do not carry a lot of cash either. Flea market shoppers are now more knowledgeable and their little smart phones give them information within a few seconds. You are dealing with a consumer that totally has different expectations than someone walks into a brick-and-mortar store or even online. For myself, I walk into the flea market expecting to haggle and pay less even though I would have paid more online or in a brick and mortar store. The mindset just changes once you walk in. If you have commons and un-commons that you are able to offload at least 50% off E-bay then you might do well. There aren't as many collectors out in the flea market scene (gave up?) as before and even if they are around they will probably not shell out serious cash. The casual gamer and the parents will always buy the "popular" titles such as Zelda, Mario, Pokemon, etc. You can make some decent money off that in the $20+ range considering you didn't pay too much for it otherwise you might break even. Commons are hard to sell, unless you price them at the low end or give quantity deals. If you are willing to let your doubles go at a moderate price, why not just sell it on here?
  • Honestly dude I'm looking for a medium sized chunk of n64 boxes/manuals (around 20-30 I think). If you have that kind of stuff, I didn't use your thread b/c of the prices with shipping would have been a bit high for me, but I'd take as much as I could reasonably afford in terms of boxes/manuals for stuff I don't already have. Anyways your best bet would probably be to field offers here if you don't want to do a yard sale/flea market.
