Games will not boot after disabling lockout chip.

Sorry for the misleading title, the games will boot perfectly fine as long as I do not press down the cartridge housing to "lock" the mechanism. They did work for awhile when I pushed them down after disabling the chip, just wondering if anyone else has had this issue and the NES continued to play games over an extended period of time?

  • it will work fine in the "up" position, dont worry about damaging any carts, ive had a nes like that i have been using for years and it works better up then pushed down.
  • ^ this.

My NES I play on is like this as well. Just pop a cart in and go. Never liked the ideal of pushing the carts down as I think that what eventually bends the pins over time also why I don't use a game genie in it.
  • Pushing the games down does in fact wreck the pin connector. The whole idea of a ZIF cartridge slot is a very poorly thought out one. The one great advantage to gorilla grip pin connectors is as they break in a bit, you can leave games in the up position and they will work great.
  • Thanks guys, just wanted to know if this would eventually lead up to initial booting issues after disabling the chip!
  • Only if you clip a pin other than #4 could you possibly prevent your NES from playing games.
