New 72-pin connector didn't work

I was replacing some Nintendo systems today and had two that the pin connector did not fix the problem. One shows a grey screen and the other just shows what looks to be code. It's a bunch of gibberish. I have cleaned all parts that I could clean. Are there any other things to try or are these two systems non-repairable? Thanks for any feedback.

  • its rare but new pins can be faulty at times. but in this case it sound like the motherboard connectors are dirty. try some windex or alcohal to clean them if it still doesnt work clean the game or use a clean game to test. still nothing? use 0000 fine steel whool with windex on it and polish the MB connectors then clean off the connectors with a paper towel and whipe it with a clean one to make sure its clean. if it still doesnt work either the new pin is bad or somthing is wrong with the nes its self
  • You should certainly check it with a pin set that is known good to you. Good way of potentially eliminating the issues cause. And try the current faulty pins on an NES that works that you might have already replaced the pins in. It's always good to eliminate any possibility.

I also bought a used refurbished pin set on eBay recently, I'd suggest doing that over the new one as they can be hit or miss
  • is the lockout disabled? Pin connectors when the lockout is disabled have to make perfect contact. On both replacements and ones wheere ive bent the pins back up it seems you have to find the sweet spot for each game depending on board thickness. Ive never had one I could just throw the game in and have it work other then my like newish original NES which I dont like to use. If you cant salavage em or wanna give up on em, Ill buy them off you.
  • I bought 20 new ones and tried a couple different connectors and got the same problem. I cleaned the motherboard connectors with windex before installing as well. Unsure about the lockout as I'm not that familiar with them. I got 15 fixed and working the first time...it's these last two. I'm going to try to polish those motherboard contacts and see what's happens. Thanks for the feedback.
  • Skip the windex or alcohol to clean the motherboard connectors, its not going to work. If the metal is tarnished which is usually what it is unless something is spilled on it, you need to use a silver or brass polish to clean it. Be sure its polish and not a "cleaner"
