Wii U sound lag through tv

Whenever I first start up my wii u, the sound is off sync. The sound comes through fine on the gamepad but there is about a .5 second lag in sound through the tv. I have never had this problem with my 360 through hdmi. Messing with the tv settings doesn't change anything. Not even game mode.

I have found a way to fix this by either unplugging the hdmi cable and plugging it back in or switching to and from a different tv input. This gets annoying doing it every time I start the console though.

So is there a reason why this is only happening to my Wii U? Is there a permanent solution for this? Thanks guys.

  • are you using a 3d tv? if so there is a slight delay in sound...
  • Your TV has lag and delays the audio to remain synced with the video. I run my Wii-U through a low latency gaming monitor. Then again I have the analog audio output hooked to the sound system. But if audio lags on your TV, it is likely that the video does also.
  • I have an LG 3D Smart TV, I have an option to fix lag right in my sound options. Id imagine most newer sets do.
  • Unfortunately my tv doesn't have any options to fix lag. If the tv is the problem, shouldn't my 360 also be having this issue? Why is it only the wii u?
  • Are you running your Wii U through a receiver or running audio out on your TV through a receiver?

    Have you tried this workaround?

Yeah that workaround is what I do to get mine in sync too. At least I'm not the only one experiencing these problems. Too bad there is no permanent solution though.
  • It sounds like a handshake issue with the HDMI connection if cycling the input fixes it. I'd bet running the WiiU through component cables would resolve the issue.
  • Can you try togging the sound to and from stereo in the Wii U menu and see if it changes. Also using the component cable would help as it would be sending analog which the TV can send without processing.
