NES lockout disabled, now have no power - help please!
Hi everyone.... I am new to NA, but have been a lurker for quite sometime.
here is the problem I am having. I bought two NES consoles at a garage sale fairly cheap. Cleaned and adjusted the 72 pin, but was still getting a blinking red light on most games. Decided to disable the lockout chip on both, and bough systems worked AMAZING for the past week or so... Games starting on first try. Now, neither system will power on.... Tried multiple outlets as well as power supplies. I'm lost as to why/how this is happening, but I can't help but believe it is related to disabling the lockout chip. Even more confused because they worked flawlessly for a week after I disabled them.
just looking for any help or explanation to this problem that I can get. Thank you all in advance!

As for the issue at hand, honestly I had never encountered it personally but perhaps someone with more knowledge will chime in soon.

But if I would have damaged it, would it still have worked perfectly for a weeking and then die?
exactly, thats what doesnt make sense, especially to 2 different units.
you can try and pull a lock out chip from a game and replace it and see if it fixes it.
Is there a good tutorial or walk through to do so? Thanks!

Not really something that requires a tutorial, the lockout chip in a NES game is the same as the one in the console just looks for the same chip in the cart and desolder from the cart and install it into the console
Usually. Some carts only contain the cart lockout, while some carry both handshakes. Make sure they are the same model number before you do this.
personally i would screw it and get a cheap junk nes off ebay that works and depending on the condition of the outer nes shell swap mother boards out. it would be alot easier imo.

Looks liek you went hercules on it lol. Should have snipped it from the bottom rather then then breaking it off the chip, could have damaged it. Normally Id say reconnect and see if there is any change. Tough to say man. I could figure it out and/or fix it if it was in my hands but its just an unusual scenario having 2 with the same issue and Ive played around with hundreds of NES consoles over the years and have never seen one have no power from the mod
This fairly popular youtuber has a how to video up where he tells people to pop the leg with a screwdriver:
its a horrible way to do it, but im sure many people have watched this video and done it this way.

I just used a small pair of nippers to cut the leg where i could. it was too tight to get it at the base, but close to the chip was fine for me. Personally i wouldn't ever recommend prying on anything like this.
I'm also a bit put off by that guys video's for some reason... maybe its the entro on them that just seems super chincey and tryhard or something... idk.
