SNES Kiosk Help

A guy made me  custom wire to run from the mother board to the kiosk monitor. I plug it in, and it starts showing a "picture", but everything is coming in red/messed up.

Is anyone familiar with this unit and what can I do to get the picture coming in right? I do not think it is the wire per say, since the guy that made it is pretty competent, but I am not a genius on the topic either, so feel free to throw out all possible issues and/or solutions (in every day language and technical language please).

Thanks! See picture below.

  • So you're missing the snes scart cable? You can buy aftermarket ones on ebay

I do not think that is the issue. I have a cable running from the console to the mother board, which powers the system fine and the sound is going through the speakers, too.

I just received the custom made wire that runs from the mother board to the monitor.  The screen is making that red design picture as shown above.
  • There is another member here having the same issue. I was trying to help them.

I will try finding the thread, maybe you guys can work together.

I gave him info on the scart cable pinouts etc.

    Excellent! Thank you!
  • Are you using the original scart cable? It looks like csync is wrong, which could happen if you use the wrong type of scart cable.
  • On the snes kiosk it never used a scart cable,it uses a jp21 rgb cable which are wired differently.
  • Everybody says scart regardless of which one it is.
  • Here I was helping this member and posted pinout and info on the Scart cables. I though it was a sync issue.

I wasn't sure though if the Kiosk used euro scart or jap scart. Pikkon seems to think Jap. Good to know

  • I think the key is that some cables have sync on it's own pin and some have it combined with another signal (blank I think?). If your cable doesn't match your system the picture is going to be distorted because it's not syncing correctly.

As the other guy said, it isn't a "scart" per say, BUT it is the original.

If it is "cysnch" wrong, how do I tell and what should I do to fix it. A technical and common language explanation would help.

    Thanks!

  • some cables use composite video as sync and others use c-sync. you can also use luma for sync too. I doubt that monitor cares which one as long as you have it going to the correct pin on the monitor (scart) end, but probably best to just use c-sync.

Like Pikkon said, its probably wired JP21. It gets confusing as the connector is called scart, but the pinouts are called Euro Scart or JP21.

check to see what pin 9 on the scart connector is wired to.  It should either be pin 3 (csync) or pin 9 (composite video) on the snes side.  If not then its probably wired for Euro Scart and will need compelely redone to match the above pic.

Its most likely wired euro scart since you are only seeing red and its the only color signal that is the same on both at pin 15
  • If anything open the cable up and take a picture, also is it nintendo brand.
  • I will be taking pics tomorrow after work. Thanks everyone!

I think it's kind of something lost in translation. Unlikely most native Japanese speakers call JP21 cables scart.

  • Do any of these help?
  • I want to say that's not the original rgb cable for the system. Pretty sure it's should be officially Nintendo branded, like this:

If that's the case you might need to replace that cable. Do you know for sure if the kiosk was ever working with that cable installed?

Alternately you could send your cable to someone with a working kiosk to confirm or dismiss that possibility.

    Lincoln is right.

jason from trade n games tried a few different new scart cables off eBay and they did not work in his kiosk.

  • The kiosk uses this cable.

You should open up the cable and compare it with this one.
