  • No 64 to test it in? I made a point of bringing one, and a small tv to test mine when I bought it. Because as long as it plays sculptors cut, you are golden.
  • There really aren't many avenues for bootleg N64 carts yet. The pics you posted aren't coming up, but based on the fact that N64 boards are mostly game specific I'd say it should be legit.
  • Board looks legit (right code on the chip); not 100% on the label since that sticker covers up where the "reproduction label" print usually is.
  • Yeah board is legit. Like Drunkie here ^ said label could be fake,. does look off a bit to me, but could be the pics.

    Even so board is good.
  • I really appreciate the responses guys, I am gonna go ahead and take a shot at it and will see what I can do with the sticker to make sure the label isn't a repro. Again, I really appreciate the immediate responses guys!

Hit it with a hairdryer for a few minutes.   It should heat up enough to peel away easily (start on the right side).

If the Nintendo seal is shiny, you are usually in the clear. If it isn't, more than likely a repro label.

Yeah, the seal looked off in color. It's still worth money, just not as much.

Do you think $125 is reasonable for it?

Hopefully you can either return it or get a price similar to a label-less one....

I paid 140$ for my near mint legitimate one. Although that was an abnormally good deal. If you do buy it and plan to sell it, make sure the buyer knows about the label.

It's pathetic how far can some people go just to get a little more money, and likely original label was destroyed, glad you dodged that bullet!

So what's the story, somebody was trying to dupe you? Or they didn't knew about the label? I imagine that if they were trying to scam you they woudn't let you touch the sticker, I'm curious about what happened.
  • A good one of these is around $200. Without the label I wouldn't pay more than half, and that's only if you can't wait for a better copy.

    Abelardo,

The guy swears up and down he didn't know but I don't believe it for even the least bit. That placement of the sticker, his body language etc during the deal, it was all very suspicious. We were gonna iron out a huge deal for multiple big title games, one of which was my dracula x for snes, so it could have been a pretty bad situation if I didn't throw it up on NA for confirmation. I have lost out on a few deals before so now I make sure I go through the proper steps such as checking the board/ looking for red flags but I was trying to research it from my phone in the middle of the deal and thought the board differed from the one I saw on the url link above, so I stalled him until I could have a buddy of mine throw it up on NA until I could get it verified, and when I noticed the guy was acting kind of funny and trying to rush it I decided I had to check under the sticker on the label just to be sure and sure enough it had the reproduction label. He was then willing to go down to $125 and sell it out right but at that point I just didn't wanna deal with the guy. He's a heavy collector so I find it hard that he "had no idea it was a reproduction label." The whole thing was just fishy!

He knew it was fake for sure. It amazes me how low these scumbag resellers go to make a buck. They are everywhere now and it has become very frustrating to collect and imposible to find decent deals. Not only that but now they are making money off of fake stuff too. Have to be extremely careful these days.

Lets not make general statements about a group of people. Not all resellers are scumbags and not all resellers would sell fake stuff. In fact there is a lot of resellers that generally care about this hobby. Just because some one chooses to make money off video games that does not make them scumbags and they are not ruining the hobby. The influx of new collectors are causing a spike in demand of certain titles as low print run games, rental exclusives and popular games are still very hard to find.

Guess what top gun for nes was worth $3 10 years ago and it is the same today. Mario 3 has hovered around $15 for years. Certain games have spiked but it is less than 10-15% off all titles

I obviously don't mean every single reseller there is is a scumbag, but I would have to say at least 75% of them are. Thats how it is in the Toronto area anyways. And yes, they most certainly have ruined the hobby for me. I used to go out and browse stores once in a while and pick up some titles here and there and it was all good fun, but now the same resellers are at these stores EVERY DAY to buy up anything they can make a buck on leaving absolutely nothing for the rest of us. I cann't but anything on Craigslist / Kijiji anymore because they buy it up within minutes, the stores I used to go to are a waste of time now, and any local flea market or shop charges triple the market value on everything they have. It has become very frustrating. I think this is part of the reason so many collectors are selling off their entire collections these days.

I doubt that it is just resellers buying everything there is a lot more collectors these days too

Yep can confirm, the GTA kijiji deals get sold within the hour, often times they are replied to in minutes.

That is a possibility, but from my experience the new collectors go buy their games from the local flea markets and game shops and blindly pay triple the market value.
