Fake Pokemon Games?

Hi all, I was browsing local classifieds and noticed this seller selling Pokemon GBA games which are frequently faked and they even come in the little plastic cases the fakes usually come in. I am having a hard time determining if these are real or not, could someone help me out?

  • The lighting might be off but the 2 rubys look different, one might be real, but don't quote me on that one
  • I was thinking the same thing, rdools. The bottom right doesn't seem to have as much detail in the background, but it could just be shadowed.
  • open them up and look at the board. they look real to me
  • Thanks guys!
  • Both Ruby look fake to me, the emerald too.
  • Hard to tell... as other said, one of the rubies looks quite different. It might be lighting, but if you can get pictures of the back sides of the ruby and emerald games it'd be pretty easy to tell. generally the pirate carts do not have these 4 little square pads on the back side.

i dont know if ive ever seen any regular red/blue games be pirates. seems like mostly the GBA stuff. But its hard to tell with just one picture.
  • Quick way to check, look at the Nintendo on the back, if the text is a bit thinner than normal it's fake. Look at the board, it should say Nintendo. Of course the easiest way is to crack open the case and look at the board.
  • The best fool proof method is to check the back in the upper left corner. The cases are a little see through and you can see a shiny square on part of the board in the upper left corner on the back. If that is not there, it is always a fake. I deal with tons of pokemon games at my shop and have never came across a fake that had that square on the board. Almost all of the fakes have the exact same basic board when looking through the plastic.

This. All of those cartridges are legitimate.

  • Also, Pokemon Cartridges usually have shiny labels.

It's also best to open up the cartridges and check the soldering job and for the cheap yellow batteries.
