Questions about ROB for the NES

I purchased a rob off ebay.  I have spent the last hour trying to get it to operate.  I put fresh batteries in him, i have tried different nintendos, different crt's, different brightness levels, lights on/off.  All he does is start at center and then to the right and back to the center upon turning on.  He does not respond to any commands from the nintendo and also his shoulders don't move up and down they are permanently down.  What else can i try or am I SOL.

  • Keep doing tiny adjustments to where he is looking, the range is very small! The shoulders not moving is a gear that came unglued inside, will need surgery to fix.
  • No response at all from the R.O.B. to the TV makes me think maybe a wire came off of the sensor or something, it would at least make some sort of grinding noise, maybe check that out first. As it does go into the start-up test mode (at least partially), but doesn't respond to the TV, definitely makes me think it's a sensor issue. Also be careful when opening one, all the little gears will spill out so it needs to stay upside down (head towards the floor / table) at a straight angle.
  • Are you using a tub tv? Rob doesn't work on LED or LCD tv's. You might know this already never hurts to say something.

OP stated he used it on various crt tvs.
  • Probably the unit itself is broken.
