My M82 is acting stupid .... it acts like there are no games

I pulled out my M82 to sell it. It has been wrapped and stored....with no games in it.... for well over a decade. I plug it up and the intro screen is fine. It then starts scrolling through the menu looking for a game to play. It starts at number 2 , then cycles to 12, then over and over.   Well....DUH....I forgot to put any games in it.

I put 12 tested games in it , and it still scrolls 2 thru 12..... never showing digit number 1.  I have done all the stuff a normal idiot would do.....and the inside pins are spotless.

I hate to sell this as non-working. I was stunned to see how much they sell for now.

Any insights as to the problem??   It is in otherwise good shape, and hasn't moved since the '90s.

  • Some games are incompatible with the m82.

Maybe the game in slot 1 is incompatible and for some reason is preventing the others from being read
  • Huh.... I had no idea. I will make sure to grab some old black box era games and try again. Thanks!

I know you said the contacts are clean, but the m82 flipping through games 2-12 is an issue of it not reading the lockout chip in the game cart.

However it failing to even go to game 1 is what puzzles me most. That is probably the key to your problems.
